PS5 sales crossed 20,000 mark in India as per a report

Sony’s next-gen console PlayStation 5 has been a huge success globally. Its futuristic design and strong hardware capabilities made it an instant hit among gamers. Though the PlayStation 5 became hugely popular in the gaming industry, getting your hands on one is very difficult. Sony has sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 units since its launch in November last year. With this, the PS5 continues to be the hottest selling gaming console by Sony to date.

The Japanese tech giant was able to sell around 4.5 million units by the end of the previous year. The sales figures kept on increasing in 2021 and hit 7.8 million unit sales globally in the first quarter. Sony was able to maintain the number of sales despite the global supply shortage of the semiconductors that are needed for advanced microchips. Sony recently revealed in an announcement that PlayStation 5 has hit the 10 million sales mark, which averages around 40,000 units sold, every single day, globally!

Instead of getting huge success in the global market, PlayStation 5 sales crossed the 20,000 marks as per a Report by IGN India. Sources amongst multiple distributors and retailers all independently have confirmed to IGN India that more than 20,000 units have been sold across the country.

This includes grey market purchases and parallel imports available since the console’s worldwide launch in November 2020 along with official sales for the console since its February 2, 2021 release date in India, making it the fastest-selling console in the country ever. Nonetheless, Sony company haven’t confirmed this till now.

The numbers make the PlayStation 5 the fastest-selling gaming console ever built by Sony. It outpaces the PlayStation 4 to the milestone by nearly a month, despite the ongoing chip shortage that restricts its supply. Sony continues to face the supply constraint, which is not likely to go away anytime soon. As anticipation for the much-hailed gaming unit remains high throughout, periodic sales through online channels are the only way that buyers are able to get their hands on a PS5 unit.

Better put, these sales are the only way PS5 units seem to be selling at all. Though with the limited stock, most of these sales are over within a matter of minutes. We saw this with the most recent sale of the gaming console held on Amazon India earlier this week. The PS5 went out of stock within five minutes of being listed on the website.
