Price, Betrayal, and a New War: Everything That Led to Modern Warfare 4

Before Captain Price goes fully off the grid, it’s worth remembering how he got there. Activision just published a full recap of the Modern Warfare storyline heading into Modern Warfare 4, tracing the saga from Verdansk’s chemical weapons raid all the way to General Shepherd’s assassination — the moment that pushed Price outside the system he once served.

The short version: Task Force 141 formed to fight Al-Qatala and Russian General Barkov in Urzikstan, only to be betrayed by Shepherd and Shadow Company in Mexico. That betrayal escalated when Makarov killed Soap in the Modern Warfare III finale, leading Price to assassinate Shepherd himself. Now, in MW4, a full-scale North Korean invasion of Hajin City collides with Price’s off-book hunt for a weapon that could shift the balance of global power — territory our earlier coverage of MW4’s official announcement broke down in detail when the game was first revealed.

Modern Warfare 4: Story So Far: Key Beats

Players don’t need prior franchise knowledge to jump in, but the throughline matters: every major betrayal and loss in this saga is what pushes Price into the uneasy alliances he’ll be forced to make in MW4 — themes our campaign early access breakdown covers in more depth for anyone planning to dive in on day one.
