Prabhsimran Singh Makes History: First Uncapped Indian to Hit 4 Consecutive IPL Fifties – Is a Team India Call-Up Next?

Prabhsimran Singh : In a season overflowing with emerging talent, Prabhsimran Singh has officially separated himself from the pack. The 24-year-old Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener made IPL history by becoming the first uncapped Indian player to smash four consecutive half-centuries, delivering a resounding knock on the doors of India’s national selectors.

On Thursday in Dharamsala, against a formidable Delhi Capitals attack featuring Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav, Prabhsimran’s blade sang again. He reached his fifty in just 28 balls, launching Punjab to an explosive start alongside opening partner Priyansh Arya. Their 122-run stand in just 10.2 overs not only demoralized Delhi but also stamped their dominance at the top of the order.

From Power-Hitter to Consistency King

Known for his aggressive intent at the top, Prabhsimran has added a key element to his game this season: consistency. Prior to his latest 50, he had delivered three standout performances —

• 83 (49 balls) vs Kolkata Knight Riders
• 54 (36 balls) vs Chennai Super Kings
• 91 (48 balls) vs Lucknow Super Giants

His latest knock only reinforces the transformation from a raw hitter to a polished match-winner.

By the Numbers: A Case for India Selection

• 487 runs in 12 matches
• Average: 44.27
• Strike Rate: 170.87 (highest among batters with 450+ runs in IPL 2025)
• Orange Cap Standings: Currently 6th

At a time when India’s T20 blueprint hinges on aggression and adaptability, Prabhsimran ticks every box. His combination of fearless strokeplay and improved game awareness makes him a genuine contender for India’s T20 setup.

Perfect Timing Amid India’s Wicketkeeping Shuffle

With Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul seemingly out of India’s immediate T20 plans and Sanju Samson battling injury concerns, the wicketkeeper-batter slot is suddenly wide open. Prabhsimran, who dons the gloves for PBKS, could be the dark horse who rises through the ranks — much like Pant did post-IPL 2018.

His numbers this season stack up favorably even when compared to established stars. The fact that he now joins elite company — Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan — as the only Indian players to record 4 or more consecutive IPL fifties only fuels the hype.

Maturity, Not Just Muscle

Beyond the stats, what’s truly noticeable is Prabhsimran’s improved decision-making. Earlier criticized for reckless shot selection, he’s now pacing his innings with control, rotating strike smartly, and picking the right moments to attack. That evolution could be the edge that turns potential into opportunity — at the international level.

What’s Next?

With the T20 World Cup cycle ongoing and India always on the lookout for explosive top-order options, selectors may have little choice but to give the young dynamo a shot. If not immediately in the main squad, then at least in the India A or Emerging Players setup.

After all, form is currency in T20s — and right now, Prabhsimran Singh is one of the richest players in the league.

Prabhsimran Singh’s name is no longer just a footnote in IPL stats — it’s a headline waiting to happen. If his current purple patch continues, a Team India debut may no longer be a question of “if” but “when.”
