Positano: Everything About the Star-Studded Romance

A First-Time Collaboration Worth the Wait

This marks McConaughey and Saldaña’s debut collaboration, despite both being Netflix veterans. McConaughey previously voiced the lead in Agent Elvis, while Saldaña captivated audiences in the heartfelt limited series From Scratch. Their combined star power is unprecedented—Saldaña’s films alone have grossed over $15 billion at the box office, while McConaughey’s work has earned over $3 billion.

The chemistry between a laid-back Texas charmer and one of Hollywood’s most versatile actresses promises sparks on screen. While plot details remain confidential, the romantic caper genre hints at thrilling twists alongside heartfelt moments.

Oscar-Winning Director at the Helm

Daniel Roher brings serious credibility to this project. His documentary Navalny won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, proving his ability to craft compelling narratives under pressure. His recent works Tuner and Blink showcase his versatility, making him an intriguing choice for a romance caper.

The screenplay comes from the creative duo Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, who penned the stylish thriller Sharper (2023) and The Sitter (2011), demonstrating their range across genres.

Why Positano Is the Perfect Setting

The Italian coastal town of Positano serves as more than just a backdrop—it’s practically a third character. Known for its pastel-colored houses cascading down cliffsides, crystalline waters, and romantic atmosphere, Positano embodies la dolce vita. This picturesque location naturally lends itself to romance while providing the exotic flair essential for a caper film.

What’s Next for These Hollywood Heavyweights

McConaughey has been gradually returning to on-camera roles after focusing on voice work in Sing 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. His 2025 appearances in crime drama The Rivals of Amziah King and Apple TV’s The Lost Bus signal his comeback to live-action.

Meanwhile, Saldaña continues her reign in blockbuster territory, currently reprising her iconic role as Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. For fans of high-stakes romantic dramas like Netflix’s hit Nobody Wants This, Positano promises similar emotional depth with added international intrigue.

Netflix reportedly plans to fast-track production, though no release window has been announced yet. Given the star power and prime location shooting requirements, expect Positano to arrive sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
