Pooja Meri Jaan Release Date: Mrunal Thakur’s Four-Year-Delayed Thriller Finally Streams

Some films take a while to find their audience. This one took four years just to find a release date. Pooja Meri Jaan, Mrunal Thakur’s Hindi crime thriller, is finally streaming, and its long, complicated journey to the screen is almost as interesting as the film itself.

Pooja Meri Jaan Release Date

The Story: Truth Gets Complicated After a Death

At the center of the film is Pooja, played by Mrunal Thakur, whose life spirals after a suspicious death. Rather than delivering a straightforward whodunit, the film builds itself around conflicting perspectives, letting different characters’ versions of the truth clash against each other. It raises uncomfortable questions about consent, responsibility, and how quickly people rush to judgment when the full picture isn’t clear. Huma Qureshi plays Sana, a key figure whose account adds another layer to the mystery.

Why Did It Take Four Years to Release?

This is the part of the story that’s genuinely unusual. Pooja Meri Jaan was announced back in 2022 and had actually finished shooting by that July. What followed was years of shifting plans. The film was originally built for a direct-to-digital release on JioCinema, but the platform’s merger with Disney+ Hotstar upended that pipeline entirely. Negotiations with other streaming services reportedly stalled over acquisition price, and a possible theatrical release considered in 2024 was ultimately shelved too.

Director Navjot Gulati has spoken publicly about his frustration with how the release was handled, saying the film got caught in the middle between the production house and potential platforms. It’s not an isolated case either: Maddock’s Tehran, starring John Abraham, went through a nearly identical ordeal before finally landing on Zee5 in 2025.

The Team Behind the Film

Navjot Gulati, who made his directorial debut with Jai Mummy Di, co-wrote Pooja Meri Jaan with Kanishka Singh Deo, with additional writing from Niren Bhatt, known for hits like Stree 2 and Munjya. Maddock Films, the production house behind this project, has built a reputation for genre-bending hits including Stree, Bhediya and Sky Force, alongside grounded dramas like Badlapur and Hindi Medium.

Why This Release Matters?

Beyond the film itself, Pooja Meri Jaan‘s journey is a small case study in how India’s streaming landscape has shifted over just a few years. Platform mergers and changing OTT distribution strategies can genuinely delay finished films by years, something audiences rarely see behind the scenes. That it’s finally arriving is good news for fans who’ve been tracking its status.
