The president and CEO of SIE, Jim Ryan, has hinted that the PS5 will also bring the service like Xbox Game Pass. The rumor took place after an interview with the Russian outlet TASS about the PS5.
The next-generation Sony console has already released in the last week. There was a limited stock for the launch day because of the unstable supply chain. It is now competing worldwide with the Microsoft Xbox Series console.
Game Pass is a subscription service of Xbox, where users can get access to over 100 high-quality games like many overlooked indie games, contents of EA Play, etc. There are different plans for console, PC, and both with low monthly price.
Ryan said in the interview, “For me, it’s great that there’s competition. I think it makes us work harder. It avoids us getting complacent. It’s great that the consumer has a choice. I think that’s wonderful.”
TASS directly inquired about the Xbox Game Pass and if Sony has planned for this kind of similar service. Replying to that, Ryan gave an interesting perception. He said, “There is actually news to come, but just not today. We have PlayStation Now, which is our subscription service, and that is available in several markets.”
PlayStation is not a service like Game Pass. Ryan described it as a substitute for Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft aims to help independent developers and smaller publishers. It can be expected that Sony will end up with a different approach. Now we have to wait and see what Sony brings as ‘news’ later.
