A new finding suggests the Pixel Launcher could soon sort apps into folders by itself, using AI that runs on the phone. According to a post by tech creator Abhishek Yadav, Google is working on an Organizer feature in the Pixel Launcher Organizer code that uses Gemini Nano, Google’s small on-device AI model, to place apps into folders automatically. The post says the code shows that the AI model needs around 15 minutes to download before it starts working, which suggests the processing happens on the phone instead of in the cloud. It adds that the feature is hidden and not live, and that it was found in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1.

Why On-Device AI Matters

Gemini Nano is designed to run on the phone itself, which means app names and usage patterns would not need to be sent to a server for sorting. How Other Phones Compare

The post notes that Nothing phones can already sort apps into categories inside the app drawer, but that no brand yet uses AI to build folders directly on the home screen. Samsung and other brands have offered folder suggestions and layouts in different forms, so the claim of being first is the creator’s view and may depend on how you define the feature.

An Earlier Organiser Discovery

This is not the first time an organiser has appeared in Pixel code. PhoneArena reported on a separate feature found in Android 17 Beta 3 that lets users create, delete and rearrange home screen panels from one interface, with suggested layouts based on categories such as Games, Health and Fitness, Productivity, Travel and Social. That report did not mention Gemini Nano, so it is not clear whether the two discoveries are the same project or related ones.

Will It Come to Pixel Phones?

Hidden code does not guarantee a launch. Google often tests features that change or never ship, and the PhoneArena report described the earlier organiser as still rough, with placeholder graphics.
