Path of Exile 2 League 0.4.0 Update: Release Window & Expected Features

After the massive success of The Third Edict expansion, Path of Exile 2 players are buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming 0.4.0 content update. Grinding Gear Games has confirmed exciting news that the developer is staying on track with their ambitious four-month release schedule, targeting an early December launch despite the holiday season challenges. If you’ve been grinding through the Rise of the Abyssal League, here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming next.

Confirmed December Release Window

GGG confirmed the 0.4.0 content update remains on schedule for early December 2025, with the official livestream and exact release date to be announced soon. This timing is particularly strategic—it allows players to dive into fresh content during the holiday break while giving developers a window to address any launch issues before staff vacations begin.

Based on GGG’s four-month league cycle, with patch 0.3.0 releasing on August 29, 2025, the community expects the update to drop within the first two weeks of December. This maintains consistency with the developer’s proven cadence while maximizing player engagement during the year-end gaming season.

What to Expect from Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.4.0

While GGG remains tight-lipped about specific features, community speculation combined with developer hints paint an exciting picture of what’s arriving in the next major update.

The Druid Class Arrives

After GGG confirmed Druid was originally planned for the Abyssal League but delayed due to not being ready, the class is very likely to appear in patch 0.4.0. Early gameplay footage from Gamescom showcased the Druid’s shapeshifting abilities and nature-based magic, suggesting a versatile class that can transform into powerful beast forms while wielding elemental forces.

For players who’ve been waiting for a proper shapeshifter archetype, this addition could be the biggest draw of the entire update.

Endgame Improvements Address Player Concerns

The Rise of the Abyssal League brought significant improvements with patch 0.3.1’s endgame overhaul, but GGG acknowledges there were complaints regarding endgame content that patch 0.4 will address. Expect refinements to Atlas progression, mapping systems, and reward structures that make the endgame grind more engaging and rewarding.

Delve Mechanic May Return

Community data miners have uncovered tantalizing evidence suggesting the popular Delve mechanic from Path of Exile 1 may return, with database strings referencing fossils, resonators, and Delve socketable currency appearing before being removed. If true, this infinite dungeon exploration system would add tremendous depth to crafting options and long-term progression goals.

Character Migration to Standard League

When the Rise of the Abyssal League ends in late November, your characters and items will migrate to the Standard or Hardcore Early Access league with no wipes. This means every hour you’ve invested, every piece of gear you’ve crafted, and every level you’ve gained remains permanently accessible.

Even players who only participated during the free weekend will find their characters waiting in Standard League when they return. This no-wipe policy demonstrates GGG’s commitment to respecting player investment during early access.

What This Means for PoE 1 Players

The December timing creates an interesting dynamic between Path of Exile 1 and 2. While PoE 1’s Keepers of the Flame League continues until February 2026, the 0.4.0 launch may draw players away to experience fresh content in the sequel. Dual-wielders who play both games will need to choose where to invest their limited gaming time during the holidays.

Preparing for the Update

With December fast approaching, now’s the time to finish up your Abyssal League goals and stockpile currency for the new league economy. Fresh leagues always bring economic resets, making early participation incredibly valuable for players who understand market dynamics.

Consider experimenting with different builds in Standard League during the transition period—this lets you test theories without risking resources in the competitive environment of the new league launch.
