Grinding Gear Games, the company behind the critically acclaimed ARPG Path of Exile, has formally stated that Path of Exile 2 is a full-fledged sequel rather than an expansion for the original title. Path of Exile 2 was first revealed in 2019 during the ExileCon event as an addition to Path of Exile with revamped mechanics, a new campaign, new playable classes, a richer endgame, and much more. Grinding Gear Games has chosen to change the route of Path of Exile 2 after three years and a lot of input.
Path of Exile is an Action RPG known for its deep combat, intricate gameplay, and ridiculously broad endgame systems that all flow into one another. Players can embark on various challenges, for instance, when encountering final bosses in a game or defeating a large group of enemies with a single spell, players can strategically create customized character configurations using various abilities, acquired or crafted equipment parts, and Path of Exile’s unique skill tree.
Path of Exile 2 was meant to revamp pre-existing concepts like linking gem slots, simplify elements like aura activation, and incorporate abilities like Shapeshifting, all while using the same game client as the original.
Grinding Gear Games confirmed during the official ExileCon 2023 demonstration that Path of Exile 2 is now a whole different sequel due to the game’s ever-expanding scope. Director Jonathan Rogers explains during the presentation that Path of Exile 2 now has six unique campaign acts, 100 bosses, 600 new monster types, 1500 passive talents, 240 active skills, 700 unique equipment types, and many other unknown additions.
The game now includes six new classes, each with three ascendancies, in addition to the original title’s six, bringing the total number of ascendancies to 36. As shown in the presentation, the previously described Shapeshifting has been incorporated into the Druid class.
The gameplay presentation began in the remains of the Vaal civilization, which veterans will recognise as part of the new campaign’s third act. The Monk was the primary focus of this demo, with the Sorceress making an appearance later on. Path of Exile 2’s playable classes, according to Director Rogers, are now highly geared around the major qualities, with each stat having two linked classes.
Path of Exile 2 will include a dodge system that generates invulnerability frames, as well as permanent stat benefits from the previously stated bosses, incentivizing players to explore the nooks and crannies of maps and zones.
