The Twin Sister Reveal

Maxine discovers Mirabelle, her identical twin sister, sleeping on her couch. Unlike Maxine, who grew up an orphan, Mirabelle was raised by their parents who decided they could “only handle one” child. The sisters bond over late-night conversations about love and life, though Maxine admits she worries she’ll never love anyone besides Douglas.

Mirabelle’s Heroic Actions

The twin’s arrival proves fortuitous for Maxine’s mission to expose Pinky’s Russian mob connections. Mirabelle unknowingly helps Maxine three times during the episode:

Douglas’s Confession: She hears Douglas profess his continued love for Maxine
Raquel’s Discovery: After being mistaken for Maxine, she battles Raquel and discovers she’s connected to the Russian mafia
The Critical Ledger: Mirabelle steals Pinky’s incriminating financial records from Raquel before the fatal encounter

The Shocking Ending Explained

The episode concludes with Mirabelle shot and floating face-down in the pool, with Evelyn standing over her. The tragic twist? Both sisters wore similar dresses that day, creating a deadly case of mistaken identity.

The scene suggests Evelyn may have shot who she believed was Maxine, though the shooter’s true identity remains ambiguous. Series creator Abe Sylvia describes the moment as taking the show into darker territory than previous episodes.

What’s Next for Maxine?

With Virginia and Robert whisking Maxine away from the crime scene, the next episode titled “Maxine Plays Dead” premieres December 24, 2025. The storyline appears to involve Maxine letting everyone believe she’s dead while her actual identity remains hidden.
