Pakistan England Youth ODI Match Overshadowed By Protests Before Visitors Win

Pakistan U19 defeated England U19 by 177 runs in the first Youth ODI at Arundel on September 9, 2026, just hours after being mistakenly targeted by local protesters near Portsmouth. The tourists posted a formidable total of 333 before bowling out the hosts for 155 to secure a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.

That athletic triumph on the pitch followed a tense morning off it. A crowd of roughly 30 people had gathered outside a hotel near Portsmouth where the visiting squad was staying as a base for the series. Protesters mistakenly believed the young cricketers were asylum seekers following recent local unrest.

Local figures quickly intervened to defuse the situation outside the team hotel. One official addressed the crowd directly, telling them, “You’ve got the wrong guys, it’s a cricket club,” and the group realised the mistake and left within a couple of minutes, while a Hampshire Police spokesman confirmed that officers attended and no offences were identified.

On the field, the visitors channelled any external commotion into an absolute masterclass of cricket. Pakistan U19 batted first and accumulated 333 runs on the back of disciplined partnerships and aggressive stroke-play. England U19 struggled to build momentum against a disciplined bowling attack, eventually folding for 155 runs inside their allotted overs.

Match Summary and Series Context

The emphatic 177-run margin underlines the sheer dominance displayed by the visitors in opening the four-match contest. While England Tell Brydon Carse about squad discipline in senior ranks, the developmental side faced a harsh reality check against a well-drilled opposition.

That comprehensive victory sets a high benchmark for the remainder of the itinerary. Similar to how England’s Donald and Crocombe navigated challenging conditions in past developmental circuits, this squad must regroup rapidly.

Looking Ahead in the Youth Series

Attention now turns quickly toward the second fixture of the schedule. The action moves to Guildford for the second match on September 12, 2026. Following that clash, the teams travel to Wormsley for the final two fixtures set for September 14 and September 16, 2026. Full coverage via BBC Sport.

Much like tracking fixtures in the England Ireland ODI Series, coaches will look closely at squad rotations. Ultimately, the opening match will be remembered as much for the bizarre off-field misunderstanding near Portsmouth as for the clinical cricket played at Arundel. As England’s Six-Wicket Win in other developmental blocks showed, mental resilience remains the ultimate separator. Full coverage via BBC Sport Cricket.
