BCCI terminates contract with event partner IMG for IPL 2021

BCCI announced the termination of contracts with International Management Group (IMG) now owned by Endeavor. The UK based sports events company IMG was the event partner of IPL. They are the event manager of IPL since its inception. But BCCI has decided to move on.

A BCCI source said, “The BCCI has, over the years, gained rich experience in running the league and is well-equipped to put in place a world-class team to run the show. Right now, all we can say is that the partnership with IMG has run its course.”

“Relationships kept swinging from sweet to sour every now and then, like any professional set-up. These were qualified individuals, but every journey has to come to an end. This one has also reached its conclusion.”- he added.

According to the reports, when the deal was signed in 2008, IMG was signed on a 27 Cr annual deal. In 2009 they increased to 33 Cr. In 2010 it was again re-negotiated for 28 Cr. In the recent deal in 2017 IMG was given a hike of 40% from the previous fee. But the situation was getting worse between the two parties so BCCI decided to terminate the contract.

The board is now looking for a team of qualified executives to host the IPL 2021. The board may release some tenders for specific tasks and various vendors will be appointed for different roles.

IPL 2021 is scheduled to be started in the second week of April. It will be a tough ask for BCCI to host the league single-handedly within this short period of time.

Are Hyundai and Apple really in talks to develop a Self-driving car?

Apple is reaching out to a bunch of automakers around the globe for their next car. The news is not at all new to us as we all have been hearing about the news that Apple will launch its own car between 2025 and 2027. A recent news claim that renowned carmaker Hyundai is in talks with Apple for their upcoming project. Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor has amended the issued statement twice since the initial announcement, writes Bloomberg.

First the Korean carmaker had confirmed that Apple Inc. has requested for a potential cooperation to develop and build a self-driving car. Whereas, after a few hours Hyundai has revised the statement by removing the reference to Apple. This has sparked a matter of discussion questioning the validity of the news.

So what were we expecting from this contract? Well as per the reports, this contract was based on developing a self-driving car. The ultimate goal was to work on a self-driving car but there were no confirmation on the fuel type of the car, which means is not known whether it would have been a electric car or a normal petrol/diesel car.

Recently, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come out and stated that mass production of the upcoming Apple car can be delayed until “2028 or later.” This delay is major because of three reasons. Firstly, uncertainty about the timing. Secondly, uncertainty about the supplier & vehicle’s specifications and lastly uncertainty about the competitiveness in the Electric vehicle market. Referring to the earlier reports, Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the market is “too bullish about Apple Car”.

According to GSMArena, “Hyundai Motor formed a $4 billion joint venture with a General Motors spin-off, Aptiv, focused on developing self-driving cars. This is just part of the $55 billion investment that will be made over the next five years on projects related to electric and autonomous vehicles. The company aims to sell 1 million electric cars by 2025.”

IPL GC gives a deadline till 21st January to the franchises for submitting the list of retained and released players

The IPL governing body earlier this week announced the deadline for player retentions and the trading window.

The IPL’s GC has decided that all the eight franchises will be allowed to submit the list for the names of their retained players by January 21, the IPL chairman, Brijesh Patel said on Thursday. Patel and members of the IPL GC recently did a virtual meeting earlier this week where they discussed the planning and preparations for the next IPL at length.

“We will have the players’ retention till January 21 and the trading window for the franchises closes on February 4,” Patel, the former India Test batsman told PTI while informing that the date of the auction is yet to be finalized.

It is highly expected that the three-time IPL winner, Chennai Super Kings might release two big names, Piyush Chawla and Kedar Jadhav on the basis of this year’s poor performance.

The Champions of IPL 2020 and 5 times IPL winner are likely to retain all their big names and may release few as to increase their purse from Rs 1.95 crore. Rajasthan Royals have the maximum purse of Rs 14.75 crore, who also might release some of their big names including Jaydev Unadkat, Sunrisers Hyderabad have Rs 10.1 crore, Delhi Capitals of Rs 9 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders of Rs 8.5 crore, and Royal Challengers Bangalore of Rs 6.4 crore.

IPL 2020 IPL GC gives a deadline till 21st January to the franchises for submitting the list of retained and released players

It is expected that the mini-auction is likely to happen in the mid-week of February after the end of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is going to start from 10th of January, and will end on 31st January so that the IPL franchises could scout talented youngsters from the domestic cricket.

All of the eight teams in the tournament enjoy a players’ purse of Rs 85 crore and Patel said that there will be “no increase of purse” for the 2021 auction.

It is also that the IPL GC will still have to wait for some more time before finalizing their venue country to host IPL, whether to host the tournament in India or somewhere else depending upon the situation of the pandemic.

“The BCCI will wait for a month to see how the COVID-19 situation is in India before finalising the schedule. Everyone wants it to be held in India but we still need to wait for some more time before taking a call,” a BCCI source said.

Former Bengaluru FC manager Carles Cuadrat is the most successful ISL coach

After four and a half years with Bengaluru FC, head coach Carles Cuadrat was relieved of his duties by the club on Wednesday. The Spaniard spent two years as the assistant to former Bengaluru coach Albert Roca, and two and a half as the man in charge of the dugout himself before parting ways.

Here is what the club had to say in their official press release regarding the sacking of their head coach in the middle of the season:

bfc cuadrat e 30 1514629259 Former Bengaluru FC manager Carles Cuadrat is the most successful ISL coach

“We feel the club needs to head in a new direction – one where the ethos and philosophy of Bengaluru FC begins reflecting again. While we enjoyed success with Carles in the past, we felt there was a departure from the philosophy that we hold true this season.”

Bengaluru find themselves in sixth place after 9 games played this season, scoring and conceding 12 goals in the process. The main reason behind the departure of the Catalonian coach is being reported as the disappointing performances from the team in recent weeks, despite managing to pick up points.

The club’s last three matches saw them suffer three consecutive losses to ATK Mohun Bagan, Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City FC, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Karnataka club.

In a recent survey by Transfermarkt, Cuadrat was revealed to have the highest points to game ratio, with 1.78 points per game, in 41 games in charge of Bengaluru before the beginning of season 7.

Many fans are skeptical of the club’s decision to sack the manager after a rough patch, and this recent revelation will only add to the confusion and wondering of what could have been.

Bengaluru will now be managed by Naushad Moosa for the time being, who has been part of the coaching team for over four years, and was an assistant to Cuadrat.

Manchester United to let go of Argentinian pair; Odion Ighalo’s loan deal expires at the end of January

The Argentinian pair of Marcos Rojo and backup goalkeeper Sergio Romero are on their way out of Manchester United as confirmed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself.

Boca Juniors are reportedly planning to sign Rojo on a long-term deal, but are not willing to pay up for the player. They want to either have the club terminate his contract immediately so that the player can leave, (since he hasn’t featured this season in the first place) or to sign him as a free agent in the summer.

Sergio Romero joined Manchester United in 2015 from Sampdoria, and has since gone on to become one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League over the last five years. With his days at United coming to an end, he could finally be a team’s first choice between the sticks.

Dean Henderson’s emergence, and brilliant loan spell at Sheffield United last season made him a key prospect for United’s future. The English keeper has replaced Romero as United’s number 2, filling in for David De Gea as and when required.

Both players have less than six months remaining on their contracts, and their deals will not be extended by the club. If no bid comes by for either of them in January, they will have to depart as free agents at the end of the current season.

Moreover, Odion Ighalo will also return to Chinese club Shenhua at the end of January, since his loan deal expires. The Nigerian was signed as a backup striker last year, and his loan deal was then extended to cover the first half of this season.

The striker has managed to score 5 goals and provide a solitary assist in 23 appearances for the Premier League club, and has fulfilled his role well.

Takefusa Kubo joins Getafe on loan

0

Takefusa Kubo’s loan deal with Villareal has been cut short by parent club Real Madrid, and the Japanese wonderkid has been immediately loaned out to fellow La Liga club Getafe, where he will spend the rest of the season.

The original agreement was for Kubo to spend the entirety of the 20/21 campaign with Villareal. However, Madrid were unhappy with the amount of playing time that the youngster was getting under Unai Emery, and so was the player himself. Here is what Emery had to say regarding Kubo:

Kubo1 Takefusa Kubo joins Getafe on loan

“I asked Kubo if he wanted to stay or leave and he told me that he is looking for a way out.

“Take’s behaviour is good, he has helped us and he must continue to grow as a player, however, he told me he wants to leave in order to find more minutes elsewhere and that’s why he wasn’t in the matchday squad today.”

Kubo’s appearances for the Yellow Submarine have been very limited, with the majority of them coming off the bench. The 19-year-old spent the 19/20 season with RCD Mallorca, scoring 4 goals across over 30 appearances for the club, who ended up getting relegated into the second division.

Kubo becomes the second prolific youngster to join Getafe on loan, with Barcelona’s Carles Alena having joined the club on loan only a few days ago.

WhatsApp started testing Multi-Device Support on Web under Beta Program

It looks like Whatsapp has finally decided to listen to their customer’s demands. You must be aware of Whatsapp Web. It helps you to use Whatsapp on your laptop if your phone is connected to the internet. But there were two shortcomings in this. Firstly, you can use Whatsapp Web on just one device. If you have opened Whatsapp Web on your laptop but want to use it from your desktop later, you first have to log out from the previous device. This used to irritate a lot of people who had to shift between different devices. Secondly, you can use Whatsapp Web only when your phone is connected to the internet. Even if your laptop has an internet connection but your phone does not, you won’t be able to operate Whatsapp on your laptop.

According to reports, both of these complaints have been addressed by Whatsapp. They are testing the multi-device feature on the web. They will offer WhatsApp Web BETA to their users to get to know how well this new feature is performing on a smaller scale. The reports also suggest that this multi-device feature allows you to operate Whatsapp through four devices in total. That means other than your phone, you can use your Whatsapp account through three more devices.

WA WEB BETA 1 ANDROID 768x768 1 e1610016943927 WhatsApp started testing Multi-Device Support on Web under Beta Program

Another possibility to note is that it won’t be mandatory to have your phone connected to an internet connection. You will be able to use Whatsapp on your laptop or desktop even if your phone is not connected to the internet. The image above shows how you will see a new ‘WhatsApp Web Beta’ tag on your device. You just have to go to the Whatsapp Web section on your phone where you will this option. All the features won’t be available from the start. You won’t be able to archive, mute, or delete chats from other devices. Also, you won’t be able to make any calls through your laptops and desktops.

Whatsapp has been working on multi-device support for some time now and this feature could prove to be really helpful to their customers.

Samsung’s new patent reveals an innovative under-display camera solution

For the past few years, Samsung has been working its best on the displays of smartphones, such as reducing its bezels, punch-hole selfie camera, AMOLED panel, and many more. The main motive is to get a full-screen immersive display without any obstacle like the front camera or bezels. As of now, Samsung has almost succeeded in getting almost bezel-less displays, but to get a full-screen experience there should be a vanishing of the front camera setup.

The only way to achieve a full-screen display has to be an under-display selfie camera what we’ve already seen in the ZTE Axon 20 5G, which is the first-ever smartphone in the world to feature an under-display selfie camera. Samsung also enlisted its name to make such kind of product that will have an under-display selfie camera.

samsung under display camera Samsung's new patent reveals an innovative under-display camera solution

In May 2020, Samsung Display had filed a patent titled ‘Display Device’ with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), and later on December 31, 202, its documentation got published. The patent images are showing Samsung’s under-display camera implementation on its future smartphones.

In that solution, we find two display parts, in which, the first screen (primary) with a better resolution while the second screen has a comparatively lower resolution. For a change, the second part can also be replaced to the entire top side of the handset or any of the sides on top. These sections are specially designed for not only hiding the selfie camera but also the LED flash and sensors. As more light cannot enter underneath the display, this setup will use infrared rays to easily recognize objects/people. It is also well able to calculate the distance between the phone and the objects/people.
