Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to renew with Bayern until 2024 with a massive pay rise

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to extend the contract of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for another season. The striker’s current deal was set to run out at the end of 22/23, but he has now signed on until June 2024.

The 33-year-old was not expected to be the first choice after the departure of Robert Lewandowski this past summer. But in a very surprising turn of events, he has become the trusted goalscorer for the German giants. In 24 games across all competitions, he has scored 15 goals and provided four assists.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to renew contract very soon

The forward’s new deal was a priority for Bayern Munich since November. And after several rounds of discussions, an agreement is now in place between the two parties. An official announcement can be expected from Bayern in the coming days confirming his renewal.

The forward is also expected to get a significant pay rise almost double his current salary. His role in the squad has changed significantly, and fresh terms have been discussed for Choupo-Moting, which reflects his contributions better.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting joined Bayern from PSG in 2020, and has now spent three years with them. He now has the chance to knock out his former club in the Champions League Round of 16, since the German giants have a 1-0 advantage heading into the return leg.

SUV sales are increasing and climate activitist are worried

SUV sales soared in 2022, experts say, making it much more difficult to meet global climate goals. While buyers flocked to electric SUVs alongside their gas-guzzling counterparts, supersized EVs present their own set of environmental challenges.

When it comes to reducing pollution from passenger vehicles, bigger is not always better. SUVs consume approximately 20% more oil than medium-size cars. Electric SUVs require larger batteries than other EVs, and experts are already warning that there will be insufficient raw materials to meet the skyrocketing demand for lithium-ion batteries.

SUVs outperformed their smaller counterparts in 2022.

While overall car sales fell by about 0.5 percent last year, SUV sales increased by 3 percent. They accounted for 46 percent of global automobile sales. According to a recent International Energy Agency analysis, carbon dioxide emissions from SUVs around the world are on the verge of exceeding an enormous threshold: nearly 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually (IEA).

For comparison, that is nearly twice as much climate pollution as the UK emitted in 2021. While non-SUV passenger car oil demand remained flat between 2021 and 2022, global SUV oil consumption increased by 500,000 barrels per day.

People are buying electric vehicles in greater numbers, with sales increasing by 60% by 2022. For the first time, electric SUVs accounted for slightly more than half of all EVs sold last year. EVs still emit particle pollution from tyre, brake, and roadway wear and tear, which is extremely harmful to air quality. This type of pollution is more prevalent in heavier vehicles. Regular EVs are already heavier than gas-powered vehicles, and SUVs exacerbate the problem.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro will reportedly have its A17 Bionic based on a 3nm process

Apple is preparing to make significant changes with the iPhone 15 lineup later this year, especially the iPhone 15 Pro. Four iPhone 15 models are expected, each with Apple’s Dynamic Island cutout on the front. Apple, on the other hand, will keep the standard models separate from the ‘Pro’ models.

The A17 Bionic chip in the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models will be manufactured on a 3nm process, resulting in improved performance and battery life.

The iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to include numerous exclusive features and changes. It was recently reported, for example, that the devices will have titanium casings for increased durability. According to DigiTimes, Apple’s A17 Bionic chip in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup will be based on TSMC’s 3nm architecture. Apple’s decision to use a 3nm chip in the iPhone comes more than three years after the introduction of 5nm chips.

The lower the nanometer count, the better the performance and battery life. In comparison to 5nm chips, the iPhone 15 Pro models will now outperform in terms of performance and battery life (A16 Bionic). Aside from the internals, Apple will optimise the software to work in tandem with the hardware for optimal performance.

Aside from performance, Apple is also hard at work on more power-efficient chips. Apple, for example, is working on custom 5G modems that will be manufactured on a 4nm process. The iPhone’s overall battery life will improve as chips consume less power in various situations. Take note that Apple’s first in-house 5G modem will be released alongside the iPhone SE 4.

India Vs Australia: India Struggle in the 3rd Test as Australia Nears Victory with Only 76 Runs needed on Day 3

India Vs Australia : Australia are on the verge of winning their first Test on their tour of India as they need just 76 runs in their second innings to go past India’s overall total in the third Test at Indore. Nathan Lyon was the chief architect of the downfall of the Indian batting lineup in the 2nd innings. India were bundled out for 163 with Cheteshwar Pujara top-scoring with 59 off 142 deliveries. Shreyas Iyer, R Ashwin and Axar Patel played good hands but they were not enough to take the side to a big total.

Here are some highlights from the 3rd Test between India and Australia : India Vs Australia

  1. Nathan Lyon’s magic: Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took 8 wickets for his team, running havoc on the Indian batters. Lyon, who is known for his accuracy and variations, was able to exploit the conditions in Indore and make life difficult for the Indian batsmen. He ended with match figures of 11/99, a career-best for him in Test cricket.
  2. Cheteshwar Pujara’s resistance: India’s star batsman Cheteshwar Pujara showed his class once again in the 3rd Test. He scored a brilliant 59 off 142 deliveries, trying to save his team from defeat. However, his efforts were not enough as the rest of the Indian batting lineup struggled against the Australian bowlers.
  3. Australia’s dominance: Australia have been the better team in the 3rd Test so far. They bowled out India for just 273 runs in the first innings and then took a crucial 88-run lead. In the 2nd innings, they have been able to restrict India to just 163 runs, putting themselves in a position to win the Test on Day 3.
  4. India’s poor form: India’s batting lineup has been struggling in the 3rd Test. Except for Pujara, none of the other Indian batsmen have been able to play a significant innings. Captain Virat Kohli has been dismissed cheaply in both innings, which has hurt the team’s chances of putting up a big score. India will need to improve their batting performance if they want to win the remaining matches in the series.

Australia are in a dominant position in the 3rd Test and are likely to win the match on Day 3. India’s batting lineup has struggled against the Australian bowlers, especially Nathan Lyon, who has been the standout performer in the Test. However, India will need to regroup and come back stronger in the remaining matches of the series.

WhatsApp brings Newsletter feature to its new beta 2.23.5.8 Android App

WhatsApp has just released a long-awaited feature in the beta version of its Android app: a newsletter tool. The incoming feature, currently dubbed Newsletters, was discovered by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp’s most recent Android beta (version 2.23.5.8) and indicates that the messaging app is about to enter the popular news format that has traditionally resided in our email inbox.

As early previews indicate, the Newsletter feature will be prominently displayed in WhatsApp’s Status tab. By clicking the plus icon and entering a username, you’ll be able to “stay updated on topics that matter to you” and subscribe to new newsletters.

According to WABetaInfo, they will effectively sit outside the latter – your personal messages will remain secure, but newsletters will hide or mask the phone numbers of anyone who creates or subscribes to one. The newsletters feature will simply exist in its own section of your Status tab. The ones you subscribe to will appear to be displayed chronologically, with no ads or algorithmic interference.

WhatsApp

What isn’t clear yet is what kind of newsletters will appear on WhatsApp and who will create them.

Because of WhatsApp Groups’ popularity, it appears likely that they will be a useful way to get updates from local organisations, sports groups, or official sources such as city councils.

However, unlike WhatsApp’s Communities feature, which debuted in November 2022 and has a limit of 5,000 members, the Newsletter tool appears to have no limit on the total number of subscribers. That means brands and Substack creators could use it as an additional channel to reach fans who want regular updates on specific topics.

Thirdverse, a virtual reality game developer and publisher, has announced that its popular multiplayer VR game, SWORDS of GARGANTUA, is now available globally on Meta Quest and Steam for Quest 1, Quest 2, Rift, and PCVR devices.

The game, which initially launched in 2019, has been updated with a new offline mode, giving players a chance to practice their sword-fighting skills alone, and all players will get a new free sword “Deathbringer”.

SWORDS of GARGANTUA now available on Meta Quest and Steam

The game has received high ratings and reviews and has been awarded several industry accolades, including ‘Steam Best of VR 2020 Bronze,’ ‘Oculus Quest Store Hall of Fame 2020,’ and ‘Oculus Quest Store Hall of Fame 2021.’ Players who previously purchased SWORDS of GARGANTUA have access automatically starting today.

SWORDS of GARGANTUA features realistic VR swordsmanship, where players can swing, stab, crush, and parry with over 170 weapons to fight their way through 101 floors of enemies to reach the colossal end-boss, Gargantua.

Thirdverse added over 140 new swords since that game launched in 2019, and today, a new mechanized one-handed sword “Deathbringer” was added for players to smash enemies with its black, blunt blade. Each play-through gives different floor advancement choices along the way, making it a rogue-lite action game.

Players can keep all the weapons, items, coins, and stat upgrades collected through each play permanently and combine excess weapons to make stronger versions to aid in progressively difficult battles. Players can also enjoy co-op multiplayer with up to three other adventurers and use native voice chat to call the shots and defeat Gargantua.
