Mumbai Indians’ pace unit almost picks itself, but the real question lies in their spin selection ahead of the high-stakes clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad. As for the spin department, MI will have to choose wisely. The Wankhede tends to favour pace, but a quality spinner can still be a game-changer, especially in the middle overs.

MI haven’t exactly been dominant with the bat early on either—their opening stand has averaged just 22.16. If they are to take advantage of SRH’s early frailties, they’ll need a sharper start than what we’ve seen so far.

Match-ups could play a crucial role. Mohammed Shami holds the edge over Rohit Sharma in the IPL, dismissing him thrice for 65 runs in 58 deliveries. He’s also accounted for MI skipper Hardik Pandya three times, although Pandya has countered with an impressive strike rate of 180.

When it comes to containing the dangerous Abhishek Sharma, MI have several potent weapons. Jasprit Bumrah has dominated the matchup—two wickets for just 10 runs in 17 balls. Sunrisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, have struggled to make breakthroughs, with the fewest wickets per match, the worst bowling average, and the poorest economy rate.

Ishan Kishan, who spent seven seasons with Mumbai Indians, will now play against them for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite scoring 320 runs at a strike rate of 149 last season, MI chose not to retain him before the mega auction. They attempted to bring him back but pulled out at INR 3.2 crore, allowing SRH to secure him for INR 11.25 crore.
