Why Is Season 5 the Final Season?
Season 5 is the final season of Outer Banks, officially announced on November 4, 2024. The renewal came alongside a note confirming that the team behind the show had always dreamed of reaching five seasons to tell the full story of the Pogues.
Production began on June 16, 2025, and wrapped on December 19, 2025.
The entire 10-episode Season 5 will be released as a binge drop, after the series’ fourth installment was split into two batches that premiered four weeks apart.
What Happens in Season 5?
Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. Chandler Groff is still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs are closing in, and the Kooks are trying to ensure the Pogues have no home to return to. So John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts — and an uneasy alliance with Rafe — to keep from falling apart for good.
What Happened at the End of Season 4?
JJ’s own biological father, Chandler Groff, stabs him to death after holding Kiara hostage and forcing JJ to give up the Blue Crown in Morocco. Pope shot a man named Lightner to save Cleo’s life and has been carrying the guilt of it since. Sarah discovered she was pregnant in the middle of everything else going on with the treasure hunt.
