Netflix just released the final trailer for Outer Banks Season 5, and it’s dropped a twist fans didn’t see coming. As the Pogues gear up for their last treasure hunt, the footage hints the mythical Blue Crown might hold the power to bring JJ back from the dead — reopening a wound the fanbase is still nursing from Season 4’s Morocco tragedy.

The farewell season premieres globally on August 20, 2026, closing out the story of John B., Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo with a 10-episode final run.

Why Fans Are Losing It

The trailer’s dialogue leans hard into the resurrection theory, with characters openly weighing whether the crown’s legend could reverse their biggest loss. Adding fuel to the fire: Rudy Pankow, who plays JJ, is noticeably missing from Season 5’s official cast list and isn’t part of upcoming press events — which either confirms his exit or hides a very carefully guarded twist.

The official synopsis promises the Pogues at their “absolute breaking point,” forced into an uneasy alliance with Rafe just to survive threats from every direction while chasing one final shot at freedom.

Netflix is also throwing a proper send-off with the Pogues For Life fan event in LA on August 15, featuring a fan-voted awards show, a cast Q&A, and an advance screening of the premiere episode.
