OPPO’s February ColorOS 16 update is rolling out now — and the headline feature isn’t a bug fix or security patch. PopOut, the 3D-like photo effect introduced with the Reno15 Series, is expanding to six older OPPO flagships, alongside four productivity and image quality improvements that make this a more substantial update than the usual monthly patch.
ColorOS 16 February Update: What’s New and Which Devices Get It
The rollout window runs from February 6 to February 28, 2026 — so if you own one of the supported devices and haven’t received it yet, it should arrive before the month ends.
| Feature | What It Does | Devices |
|---|---|---|
| PopOut | Extracts subject and adds 3D-like depth effect — subject pops forward from the background | Find X9/X9 Pro, Find X8/X8 Pro, Reno14/Reno14 Pro |
| PowerPoint Translation | Translates presentations to multiple languages while preserving formatting; side-by-side text comparison; direct export | All ColorOS 16 devices |
| AI Eraser Improvements | Cleaner object removal with fewer visible traces and more natural edges | All ColorOS 16 devices |
| Reflection Removal Upgrade | Reduced glare in document scans and portraits, including on glasses | All ColorOS 16 devices |
| Private Safe Enhancements | Faster file transfers; ability to add files directly to “Other files” category | All ColorOS 16 devices |

PopOut vs Standard Portrait Mode: What’s Actually Different
Most phones offer portrait mode with background blur — that’s software bokeh applied in a flat plane behind the subject. PopOut takes a different approach: it separates the subject, creates a subtle z-axis lift, and composites the result so the subject appears to exist in front of the frame rather than simply being in focus within it.
The effect is closest to what Samsung calls “Point of View” mode on the Galaxy S series and what Apple achieves with Spatial Photos on iPhone 16 — a sense of dimension rather than just sharpness contrast. The practical difference is most visible when photos are used in social media stories or short-form video — the 3D pop reads well at smaller sizes where standard portrait blur often looks artificial.
The PowerPoint Translation feature is the sleeper update in this build. Translating a 50-slide deck between languages while preserving fonts, spacing, and layout is a task that currently requires either manual reformatting or paid software like Adobe Acrobat AI. If ColorOS 16 does it natively with accurate formatting preservation, this genuinely reduces friction for professionals working across language markets — a significant audience in India’s multilingual corporate environment.
