OpenAI has officially launched Sora, its AI text-to-video generator, to the public as part of its “12 days of OpenAI” campaign. After announcing Sora nine months ago and delaying its release for safety testing, OpenAI is now offering the tool to users. It’s the upgraded version, Sora Turbo, which should be faster and more efficient in generating video.

OpenAI Launches Sora: AI Text-to-Video Generator Now Available to the Public
Users can access Sora at sora.com without needing a separate subscription. Those with a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription can get started on creating AI-generated videos. While Sora can create videos of lengths up to 20 seconds, Full HD, 720p, and 480p videos can all be made, with 480p videos being generated quite quickly, while Full HD videos take some time to produce.
Users can enter descriptive text prompts, upload a video or image, and insert their own prompt to generate AI videos according to the uploaded content. There are limits on users uploading media featuring people without their consent, minors, or content with obscene themes, and users uploading copyrighted content. Enforcing actions (like bans and removals) against violations of these terms may be undertaken without refunding your account.
Sora also includes a “Remix” feature, which allows users to add new prompts to existing videos and adjust how heavy the edit is. The “Storyboard” feature lets users create videos by stringing together multiple text prompts into clips along a timeline.
Sora can generate animated content as well as abstract scenes very well but fails to master the physical reality of generating videos of any object or human movements with realistic physics of gravity and motion.
The video’s on-screen text generation is highly accurate, though. Right now, Sora is available almost everywhere except for the UK & Europe. ChatGPT Plus’s users can create 50 videos (720p, 5 seconds) per month, while ChatGPT Pro’s users will be able to generate 500 videos (1080p, 20-second duration).
