Earlier it was rumored that OePlus was working on a new smartwatch for years now. But unfortunately, the project never got to see the light of the day. However, according to sources, there is a strong chance that an OnePlus Watch will be hitting the market soon. But surprisingly, it won’t be using Google’s Wear OS platform.
According to Max J, a relatively reliable OnePlus tipster, the OnePlus Watch will not use Wear OS. It comes as a bit of a shock, given its tight ties with Google and the Android platform.
It is worth remembering that the Wear OS is the de-facto platform for smartwatch makers. The manufacturers don’t have any resources that will enable them to craft their wearable platform from scratch. Among the brands, Fossil and Mobvoi are most famous for their Wear OS platform. Even Oppo company uses it in regions outside of China.
As to why one plus decided to ditch, WearOS is not known. The product will still pair up with the company’s Android smartphones but without Wear OS. As to what kind of new Operating System the company will use is still unknown. Oppo and Xiaomi have used forks of Android, and Huawei uses a barebones OS for its popular wearables devices.
Sources further claimed that the company is not only ditching WearOs but will also not use the OS’s modified version. The manufacturer plans to create its operating system for the smartwatch devices and what and how the new os will look and feel remains to be seen. For now, the Smartwatch’s existence is a rumor, much less the presence of a new smartwatch OS. Only time will tell of the authenticity of these rumors.
