OnePlus India is facing its most turbulent stretch in years — and the departure of its top executive has only intensified the questions swirling around the brand’s future.
OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has officially stepped down, with the company citing personal reasons for his exit. Liu, who joined OnePlus back in 2018, is currently serving his notice period with his last official day confirmed as March 31. He has already relocated back to China, making this a clean break from a role he held during some of OnePlus’s most critical years in India.

A Departure Loaded with Context
This isn’t just a routine executive exit. Just two months ago, Liu publicly dismissed reports of OnePlus shutting down, calling them misinformation and assuring users the company was “operating as usual.” His resignation now gives those shutdown rumors considerably more traction.
The Economic Times cited sources pointing to an ongoing restructuring of OnePlus’s business across global markets, even as the company maintained that India operations would continue normally. Making matters more complicated, a known leaker briefly posted — then deleted — a claim that OnePlus was shutting down operations across the US, UK, and EU as early as April 2026.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Under Liu’s leadership, OnePlus recorded a sharp 32% decline in shipments in 2025 according to CyberMedia Research, as rivals like Samsung and Vivo tightened their grip on India’s premium segment.
| Metric | Detail |
|---|---|
| Liu’s tenure at OnePlus | Since 2018 |
| Last working day | March 31, 2026 |
| Shipment decline (2025) | 32% (CyberMedia Research) |
| Market share drop | 3.9% (2024) → 2.4% (2025) |
| Reports successor named | None yet |

What Comes Next for OnePlus India
Liu was reportedly asked to begin reporting to Realme CEO Sky Li, who has been elevated within the OPPO group to oversee all sub-brand operations — a clear signal of where OnePlus now sits in the corporate hierarchy. OnePlus India is also pivoting back to an online-dominant sales model to cut costs and protect margins, while scaling back its flagship lineup in the Indian market.
