OnePlus 16 Shows Off Circular Camera Design at ChinaJoy

OnePlus is done playing coy about its next flagship. At the ChinaJoy exhibition, the company gave attendees a first real look at the OnePlus 16 — and the standout change is a complete rear camera redesign, ditching the square module for a circular one.

What Was Shown at ChinaJoy

The OnePlus 16 teaser reveals a circular rear camera module, a clear departure from the squarish design used on the OnePlus 15, according to Gizmochina’s coverage of the showcase. OnePlus China’s Brand General Manager Liu Baoyou also used the event to highlight the company’s gaming technology push, noting OnePlus posted 13% year-on-year sales growth in the first half of 2026 — its fastest growth period yet.

Under the hood, leaks point to Qualcomm’s unreleased Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, reportedly built on a 2nm process node, as detailed by Notebookcheck. That would make the OnePlus 16 one of the first phones to ship with Qualcomm’s next-gen silicon.

Why This Launch Matters

A jump from 165Hz to 185Hz refresh, paired with the upgraded Fengchi Game Core+ and a dedicated display touch chip, signals OnePlus is doubling down on its gaming credentials rather than chasing camera specs alone — though the 200MP main sensor suggests it isn’t neglecting photography either.

The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in China around October 2026, timed just after Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series is expected to debut in September, per Android Central’s analysis. One caveat worth flagging: recent reports suggest OnePlus may be scaling back its presence in Western markets, so international — and Indian — availability remains uncertain.

The Bottom Line

If the leaks hold, the OnePlus 16 could be one of the most aggressive spec sheets of the year — a 2nm chipset, a 9,000mAh battery, and a genuine camera upgrade. The bigger question isn’t the hardware; it’s whether it’ll be sold outside China at all.
