OnePlus 15R and Pad Go 2 Bengaluru Launch Set for December 17

The live keynote marks OnePlus’ 12th anniversary with Detailmax Engine photography, a 165 Hz gaming display, and Open Canvas multitasking on tablets.

OnePlus is closing 2025 with a statement. The global technology brand announced a live keynote event in Bengaluru on December 17, 2025, where the OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Pad Go 2 will debut in front of thousands of OnePlus Community members. The event—livestreamed globally—marks OnePlus’ return to in-person launches while celebrating its 12th anniversary with new product reveals, exclusive gaming experiences, and a heartfelt letter from founder Pete Lau reflecting on the brand’s evolution.

Event & Product Overview

OnePlus 15R: The Value Flagship Redefined

World’s First Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Global Launch

OnePlus 15R continues the R Series’ legacy of strong performance thanks to its combination of triple-chip technology, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile platform—with OnePlus 15R being the first device to launch globally featuring this new co-defined and co-optimized flagship chipset, according to OnePlus’ official announcement.

This represents a major coup for OnePlus, beating competitors like Xiaomi and Samsung to market with Qualcomm’s latest silicon. The “co-defined and co-optimized” language suggests deep collaboration between OnePlus and Qualcomm engineers, tuning thermal management, power efficiency, and gaming workloads specifically for the 15R’s hardware profile. For context on flagship chipset rollouts, see TechnoSports’ mobile tech coverage.

Detailmax Engine: Flagship Photography at Mid-Range Price

OnePlus confirmed the 15R features the new Detailmax Engine, bringing the same advanced computational photography algorithms found in the widely acclaimed OnePlus 15 to the R Series. All three advanced technologies found in OnePlus 15—Ultra Clear Mode, Clear Burst, and Clear Night Engine—are present in the 15R to truly level up your photography.

This marks a departure from previous R-series compromises where camera tech lagged flagships by a generation. Now, nighttime photography, burst shots, and detail enhancement match the OnePlus 15’s capabilities—a significant win for buyers who prioritize camera quality but can’t justify flagship pricing.

Triple-Chip Gaming Architecture

The complete gaming arsenal includes:

1. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (first global launch)
2. G2 Wi-Fi chip, ensuring strong Wi-Fi connectivity wherever you are
3. Touch Response Chip, allowing the 15R to sense touch significantly quicker than other devices

The dedicated Wi-Fi and touch chips address two pain points competitive mobile gamers face: lag spikes during multiplayer sessions and delayed touch response during rapid inputs—crucial for BGMI headshots or Genshin Impact combos.

165Hz AMOLED Display: See Enemies First

The OnePlus 15R features a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED display, meaning the gaming advantage continues thanks to a refresh rate that goes above and beyond to help you see enemies earlier and react quicker. The display also excels outside of gaming with a massive 450 pixels per inch and the ability to go from 1,800 nits of brightness all the way down to 2 nits by default or 1 nit with Reduce White Point activated.

The 1-nit floor addresses a niche but vocal user complaint: reading in pitch-black bedrooms where even low brightness feels blinding. Meanwhile, 1,800 nits ensures outdoor sunlight legibility—critical for India’s climate where midday usage is common.

OnePlus Pad Go 2: Productivity Beast with Open Canvas

Display Technology That Competes with Flagships

OnePlus confirmed the Pad Go 2 is equipped with an excellent display. Reaching a huge 12.1 inch (30.73 cm), the 2.8K display has 284 pixels per inch, a peak brightness of 900 nits, and reaches 98% DCI-P3 color coverage. It also supports Dolby Vision and has received TÜV Rheinland Smart Care 4.0 certification for all-day comfort.

The Smart Care 4.0 certification means reduced blue light, flicker-free technology, and anti-glare coating—features students and professionals spending 8+ hours on screens will appreciate. At 900 nits, outdoor note-taking or video calls under harsh lighting become viable, addressing a common tablet limitation, according to OnePlus specifications.

Open Canvas: Multitasking Reimagined

The OnePlus Pad Go 2 features the self-developed Open Canvas software, widely seen as one of the best ways to multitask on a large display. Using intuitive touch controls, users can easily activate split-screen mode and switch between multiple windows effortlessly—critical for workflows requiring simultaneous document editing, video conferencing, and research browsing.

Open Canvas differentiates OnePlus’ tablet experience from generic Android slates that treat split-screen as an afterthought. For context on tablet productivity software evolution, see TechnoSports’ coverage of mobile workspaces.

OnePlus 12th Anniversary Celebrations

Pete Lau’s Letter: A Vision for Young Innovators

OnePlus is marking its 12th anniversary this week with a new letter from Pete Lau, Founder of OnePlus, available on the OnePlus Community. The letter reflects on the past year and highlights OnePlus’ renewed focus on helping everyone, especially the rising young generation, power their lives through innovative and burdenless technology.

This messaging shift—from “flagship killer” disruption to “burdenless technology” enablement—signals OnePlus’ maturation into a holistic lifestyle brand rather than just a performance-spec challenger.

OnePlus Run 2.0 Game & Prizes

Fans can play the new OnePlus Run 2.0 game this week, starring OnePlus’ beloved mascot Una, with chances to win OnePlus 15R, OnePlus Pad Go 2, and OnePlus 15 devices. OnePlus has also revealed two new versions of Una as part of the Celebrations Una Collection:

• Diwali Una: Appears in a colorful Kurta Pyjama, bringing joy and blessings to all
• Christmas Una: Wears a Scottish-themed tartan outfit, adding a touch of festive magic to the season

The gamified pre-launch strategy builds community engagement beyond traditional advertising, with high-scoring players winning actual hardware—a tactic proven successful by brands like Xiaomi and Realme in India’s hyper-competitive smartphone market.

December 17: Live in Bengaluru, Streamed Globally

OnePlus announced that on December 17, both the OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Pad Go 2 will debut in front of thousands of OnePlus fans in Bengaluru, India, and will also be livestreamed around the world. The event will be the first opportunity for fans to get hands-on with both devices and marks a return to live keynote events for OnePlus.

Ticketing details are now available at BookMyShow, with the event titled “OnePlus: Rise as One”—suggesting limited capacity and potential sold-out status for the physical attendance. The livestream ensures global community members don’t miss the reveals, maintaining OnePlus’ tradition of inclusive launches.

Market Positioning

The OnePlus 15R’s combination of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (first global launch), Detailmax Engine photography, and triple-chip gaming architecture positions it as the most compelling value flagship for late 2025. By bringing flagship-tier camera algorithms and cutting-edge silicon to the R Series price point, OnePlus is directly challenging mid-range dominators like Nothing Phone and iQOO’s performance flagships.

The Pad Go 2’s Open Canvas software and TÜV-certified display target students and young professionals seeking iPad alternatives at significantly lower price points—a demographic Pete Lau specifically highlighted in his anniversary letter.

What’s Next

Pricing, storage variants, and precise availability timelines remain under wraps until December 17. However, the event’s scale—thousands attending in person, global livestream, hands-on demos—suggests OnePlus views these launches as pivotal to closing 2025’s product roadmap and setting momentum for 2026.
