NTT DATA, a global business and technology services provider, has been recognized as a Market Shaper in Gartner’s inaugural Emerging Market Quadrant for Physical AI Services – Established Vendors. The report, published on June 8, 2026, evaluated 27 providers operating within the nascent Physical AI Services (PAIS) market.

The recognition positions NTT DATA (https://www.nttdata.com/global/en/) as a key entity in assisting organizations with the deployment and management of Artificial Intelligence within real-world operational environments. This includes applications across sectors such as manufacturing, transportation and logistics, energy and utilities, and smart cities.

NTT DATA’s methodology centers on integrating AI closer to the point of physical operations, enabling real-time responses from machines, sensors, and connected assets. The company launched its fully managed Edge AI platform in July 2024 to facilitate this operational integration.

Shahid Ahmed, Head of Edge Services at NTT DATA, Inc., underscored the critical need for secure and safe deployment for Physical AI’s transformative potential across industries. Ahmed stated, “NTT DATA’s portfolio of Physical AI solutions aims to build more intelligent operations that enhance productivity, strengthen operational performance, and deliver measurable business value.”

NTT DATA: Overview

Pietro Scarpino, Head of Applied Innovation for NTT DATA, highlighted the practical application of the company’s innovation efforts. “Our Global Innovation Center showcases physical AI solutions, with production examples like Private 5G-enabled robotics and edge AI demonstrating how concepts translate into real-world operations,” Scarpino remarked.

The company’s service offerings in Physical AI encompass several key areas: Edge Intelligence to deploy AI near machines and workflows for immediate decision-making; Advanced Connectivity utilizing Private 5G and other wireless solutions to secure and coordinate AI-enabled systems; imulation and Robotics, employing digital twins, robotics, and simulation tools for designing, testing, and orchestrating physical AI systems; Lifecycle Governancefor monitoring, validating, updating, and continuously improving AI models and autonomous operations; and Managed Services providing enterprise-scale production, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, IT/OT integration, and ongoing operations.

NTT DATA has implemented these capabilities in various client projects. Examples include Private 5G-connected autonomous vehicles and robots, quadruped robots for industrial inspections, AI-powered real-time anomaly detection, and digital twin-based crack detection.

The company also collaborates with a network of global technology providers and innovative startups to scale Physical AI deployments. A recent collaboration with Hyster-Yale Materials Handling focuses on embedding intelligence directly into manufacturing processes to enhance quality assurance and operational efficiency.
