Introducing Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition

Community-Driven Design Stages of the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition: A Co-Created Masterpiece with Glow-in-the-Dark Design and More!

Stage 1: Hardware Design

The Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition introduces the glow-in-the-dark “Phosphorescence” concept, developed by Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki in collaboration with Nothing’s Design Director Adam Bates and CMF Designer Lucy Birley. Using green-tinted phosphorescent materials, the phone emits a soft glow in dark spaces, enhancing aesthetics without drawing power. It reflects the core identity of Nothing, requiring only daylight to recharge.

Stage 2: Wallpaper Design

Digital artist Andrés Mateos created the unique “Connected Collection” wallpapers, expanding the collection to six unique designs. Collaborating with Nothing’s Software Design Director Mladen M Hoyss, these wallpapers blend AI with digital design, bringing even more personalization to the Community Edition.

Stage 3: Packaging Design

For the packaging, Ian Henry Simmonds reimagined Nothing’s design with a sleek, macro-style crop concept, “Less is More.” This minimalist approach emphasizes a striking, reflective element on the packaging, enhancing the glow-in-the-dark theme and aligning with the phone’s design aesthetics.

Stage 4: Marketing Campaign

Sonya Palma, the winner of the marketing campaign concept, crafted “Find Your Light. Capture Your Light,” a theme reflecting Nothing’s spirit of inner power and individuality. Working closely with Nothing’s Creative Team, Sonya developed compelling visuals, a film campaign, and digital assets to spotlight the Community Edition’s unique journey and launch.

A Testament to Community-Centric Innovation

Nothing’s Community Edition Project goes beyond typical product launches, showcasing its commitment to a community-led approach. This milestone joins other initiatives, such as the 2022 introduction of the Community Board Observer role, where a representative from the community participates in Nothing’s Board meetings, emphasizing the brand’s dedication to its fans.
