Carl Pei, the former OnePlus co-founder and the mastermind behind Nothing, the technology company showcased the brand’s latest device, the Nothing Phone (1) at the Ar Basel Fair. The company also revealed that the first 100 units that will be made will be auctioned off via StockX and all the proceeds from this will go towards a community-managed fund.
Each Nothing Phone (1) arrives with a unique serial number:
The auction of these smartphones began earlier today and will go on for a duration of 48 hours. Each device has a unique serial number engraved on the side and if you want to be the holder of a unique limited edition piece of tech, then you should head over to StockX, make an account, and place a bid.
The bidding started at just $156 or Rs. 12,186 but the price now stands at $2,000 or Rs. 1,56,234. The launch event for the device will happen on the 12th of July and so far we only know bits and pieces about this phone. The design of the phone has not been completely revealed as of yet but Nothing clearly knows what it’s doing as the hype for the smartphone is just going up by the brand’s most recent move.
The StockX Page has a rather surprising disclaimer, “Nothing Phone(1) is not fully supported in North America.” This is likely due to an issue with supported bands but it is a hint that Nothing will not be launching its smartphones in the USA adopting a strategy similar to its Chinese counterparts.
If you get your hands on one of these limited edition pieces, head over to this page to check out the carriers that are supported for the brand’s first phone. The delivery of this device will take up to 35 days which means that you will get your phone on the day the phone released.
