Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic The Odyssey just wrapped up its first Tuesday in Indian theatres, and the numbers suggest a solid first week is well within reach.
How Day 5 Played Out
The film collected Rs. 10.25 crore on Tuesday, riding the usual discounted-ticket bump — though trade watchers note the spike could’ve been sharper. Still, the total now stands at a healthy Rs. 89 crore gross in India after just five days, putting the film firmly on track to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark by the end of week one.
Loosely inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, the ancient Greek epic poem, Nolan’s film has struck a chord despite mythological dramas historically being a tough sell at the Indian box office — a pattern last seen with Nolan’s own Oppenheimer.
The Odyssey : Day-Wise Collections
| Day | Gross |
|---|---|
| Friday | Rs. 19.50 cr |
| Saturday | Rs. 25.25 cr |
| Sunday | Rs. 24.25 cr |
| 1st Monday | Rs. 9.75 cr |
| 1st Tuesday | Rs. 10.25 cr (est.) |
| Total | Rs. 89.00 cr |
What’s Fueling the Run
Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, the film is benefiting from strong word-of-mouth among both audiences and critics. A big part of the draw is Nolan himself — a name that’s become shorthand for prestige filmmaking in India, backed by a string of hits including a re-release of Interstellar.
If the momentum holds, trade estimates suggest The Odyssey could eventually cross Rs. 190-200 crore. The second week looks clean, but competition heats up in week three when Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theatres.
