Nine Warriors, One Rescue Mission — Go Youn Jung Joins Lee Byung Hun’s Brutal Nambeol

A grieving sister with nothing left to lose is about to join forces with one of Korea’s most formidable action leads. Go Youn Jung has officially been cast in Nambeol, stepping into a historical martial arts epic already anchored by Lee Byung Hun — and the pairing already sounds like a genre lover’s dream.

What’s Nambeol About?

Set during the early Joseon dynasty, the film follows nine warriors of wildly different backgrounds and skill levels as they journey to Tsushima Island to rescue captives abducted by Japanese pirates. It’s being described as a hard-boiled martial arts action film — gritty, high-stakes, and rooted firmly in Korea’s turbulent historical past.

Lee Byung Hun was confirmed earlier as Im Eok, the leader steering this unlikely group of fighters. Now, Go Youn Jung joins as Ae Ryeong, a fierce, independent woman whose family was wiped out in a pirate raid. Rather than wait for rescue herself, she charges into the conflict to save her younger sibling, still held captive on the island.

Why Ae Ryeong’s Role Matters

What makes Ae Ryeong stand out isn’t just her backstory — it’s her drive. Described as someone who relentlessly pursues her goal despite the surrounding chaos, she’s shaping up to be one of the story’s emotional anchors, grounding the film’s action beats in real personal stakes rather than spectacle alone.

With filming targeted for later this year, Nambeol is positioning itself as one of the more anticipated historical action projects on the Korean slate. In the meantime, fans can catch Go Youn Jung’s earlier work in He Is Psychometric, streaming on Viki.
