What Is “Nine to Six” About?
Adapted from the popular Chinese drama The Rational Life, “Nine to Six” follows a woman who has spent years putting her career before romance — until she meets a warm-hearted and thoughtful man who sets off a cascade of personal growth and romantic possibility. It’s the kind of premise that Park Min Young practically owns at this point in her career.
Joo Hyun Young has reportedly been offered the role of Shin Ji Won — Kang Yi Ji’s best friend and a housewife in her tenth year of a DINK (dual income, no kids) marriage. Ji Won is described as refreshingly honest, the kind of person whose actions always match her words. She found her calling not in her former bank career but in food — she’s an avid home cook, a social media food poster, and someone who has literally travelled the world chasing great restaurants. But beneath her confident exterior, she’s quietly wrestling with growing doubts about her childfree lifestyle, adding a quietly powerful emotional thread to the story.
This character sounds tailor-made for Joo Hyun Young, who has built a loyal fanbase through scene-stealing supporting roles that bring humour, heart, and real emotional weight in equal measure.
Park Min Young is one of South Korea’s most beloved rom-com actresses, known for hits like What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim and Her Private Life. Paired with BTOB member and actor Yook Sungjae — who has steadily grown his acting resume alongside his music career — “Nine to Six” already has the ingredients for a standout SBS romantic drama.
