Netflix’s Yeti Movie: Horror Legend Brings Creature Feature to Life

Netflix is gearing up for another monster blockbuster, and this time, it’s heading straight into avalanche territory. The streaming giant’s upcoming survival thriller Yeti, helmed by horror maestro Michael Chaves, promises to deliver edge-of-your-seat terror wrapped in breathtaking alpine scenery.

What’s the Buzz About?

Originally developed at Sony Pictures, Yeti made a strategic jump to Netflix in April 2025 when producer Jon Silk transitioned to the streaming platform. PictureStart is backing the production, with Jessica Switch producing this high-stakes creature feature that’s already generating serious industry excitement.

Yeti Facts: Everything You Need to Know

The Story: Father-Daughter Survival Against Ancient Terror

Set against the unforgiving backdrop of the Swiss Alps, Yeti follows a father and his headstrong teenage daughter Zoey as they face a nightmare scenario. When an avalanche cracks open ancient glacial ice, it unleashes a primordial predator perfectly camouflaged against the snow—a creature built to hunt in whiteout conditions.

Still reeling from their parents’ divorce, Zoey and her father must rebuild their fractured relationship while battling both the brutal elements and a relentless monster. It’s a story of survival that’s as much about healing family bonds as it is about escaping death.

Why Michael Chaves Makes This Exciting

If you’ve been following horror cinema, you know Chaves isn’t playing around. Often dubbed James Wan’s “heir apparent” for The Conjuring universe, he’s proven his creature-feature chops with The Nun II and The Curse of La Llorona. His recent work on The Conjuring: The Devil’s Rites shows he’s at the top of his game.

Chaves first caught Wan’s attention with his viral short film The Maiden, proving he knows how to build tension and deliver scares that stick with you long after the credits roll.

Netflix’s Monster Movie Strategy

Yeti fits perfectly into Netflix’s proven formula for creature features. Think Troll meets Under Paris—both massive hits that landed on Netflix’s all-time most-watched list. The platform has mastered the art of delivering high-concept monster movies that keep viewers glued to their screens, and Yeti looks poised to continue that winning streak.

What Makes This Different?

Unlike typical monster movies, Yeti weaves emotional depth into pure survival horror. The father-daughter dynamic adds layers of complexity—this isn’t just about outrunning a creature; it’s about two people learning to trust each other again when their lives depend on it. That human element, combined with Chaves’ proven ability to craft terrifying set pieces, could make this something special.
