Sony had it. Netflix grabbed it. And honestly? That might be the best thing that could have happened to Thrash. The Cast — Familiar Faces in Very Wet Danger

Leading the film is Phoebe Dynevor, who broke out as Daphne in Netflix’s Bridgerton and recently starred in the acclaimed Netflix thriller Fair Play.

She is joined by Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, A Quiet Place: Part II), and Alyla Browne from Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga action-flix — a genuinely strong ensemble for what could easily have been a disposable genre film.

The Director & the Road to Netflix

Tommy Wirkola — director of the Nazi-zombie cult classic Dead Snow and the holiday actioner Violent Night — is both writing and directing Thrash. His signature blend of practical chaos and high-concept violence is exactly what this premise needs.

Originally slated for Sony theatrical release on July 3rd, 2026 under the title Shiver, the film was pulled from Sony’s calendar entirely when it clashed with another project using the same name — and Netflix swooped in.

Producer Adam McKay called it “an event streaming release,” adding that his team “couldn’t be more excited to be back in business with Netflix” after their collaboration on Don’t Look Up.

The shark film genre has a long, beloved history — and Thrash looks set to be one of its grittiest, most ambitious entries yet. Don’t miss it. Stay updated at TechnoSports.
