True Story: The Tragic Events Behind The Perfect Neighbor

Susan Lorincz, a resident of Ocala, Florida, became the center of national attention when she shot and killed her neighbor Ajike Owens after a long series of heated disputes about kids playing outside. Lorincz often called police on children she thought were trespassing or making noise. On June 2, 2023, after a confrontation at Lorincz’s door, she fired a .380-caliber bullet through her closed door, fatally wounding Owens, who was unarmed.

After invoking Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, Lorincz faced a highly publicized trial. Prosecutors argued her fear was unfounded, citing no evidence of threats. Ultimately, in November 2024, Lorincz received a 25-year prison sentence for aggravated manslaughter. Owens’ family, devastated, pushed for legal reforms and launched a support fund for families affected by similar violence.
