NetApp, a provider of intelligent data infrastructure, announced that its ONTAP® data management software has been tested and validated to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1. This development aims to provide customers with an optimized and secure data infrastructure foundation for their private and hybrid cloud environments.
The integration of NetApp ONTAP with VCF 9.1 is designed to enable mutual customers to reduce operational costs and accelerate the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software into production. The collaboration focuses on combining VCF 9.1’s capabilities with NetApp’s enterprise data management and built-in security features, including ransomware protection and rapid recovery mechanisms.
VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 offers a unified private cloud platform for both traditional and modern workloads. NetApp’s validation ensures that customers can leverage VCF 9.1 innovations immediately upon upgrading, with a data infrastructure layer proven compatible with the new release.

Alvaro Celis, Chief Partner and Ecosystem Officer at [NetApp](https://www.netapp.com/), emphasized the importance of flexibility for enterprises in managing workloads across different environments. “NetApp continues to innovate to ensure VCF customers can operate consistently and without disruption across cloud environments,” Celis stated. “Together with Broadcom, we are giving organizations the autonomy to optimize, protect, and scale their virtualized environments across any cloud on their own terms, safeguarding their existing operational investments while unlocking the future.”
NetApp ONTAP: Enhanced Capabilities for Private Clouds and Kubernetes
The combined NetApp and VCF 9.1 solution is structured to deliver several benefits:
Cost-Effective, Scalable, and Secure Private Clouds: VCF 9.1 aims to improve density for both virtual machine (VM) and containerized AI workloads on existing infrastructure, alongside reducing operational complexity through intelligent resource management. NetApp ONTAP is intended to complement this by providing cost-effective, enterprise-grade storage for VCF management and workload domains. New capabilities supporting VCF environments, such as NetApp Console Backup and Recovery and NetApp Console Data Services, aim to strengthen cyber resilience and data protection. Furthermore, ONTAP Tools for VMware will introduce datastore-granular replication and consistency group management, integrated into the vCenter UI and accessible via REST APIs for VCF Operations Orchestrator.
Operationally Consistent Kubernetes: NetApp’s support for VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) has been validated for VCF 9.1 environments. This allows customers to deploy modern containerized workloads while leveraging existing investments in VMware tools and operational knowledge. The combined solution seeks to accelerate DevOps workflows, CI/CD integration, and micro-services-based application development on the same VCF 9.1 and NetApp ONTAP infrastructure used for traditional virtualized applications.
Paul Turner, Chief Product Officer of the VMware Cloud Foundation Division at Broadcom, highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the companies. “With VCF 9.1, we are delivering an AI- and Kubernetes-native private cloud platform that maximizes infrastructure efficiency and security,” Turner commented. “Because NetApp’s solutions are tested and validated to support VCF 9.1 environments, our mutual customers can adopt these innovations with a data infrastructure foundation that is proven and ready.”
