Nate Bargatze’s The Breadwinner Is in Cinemas Now — Here’s When It’s Coming to Netflix and What You Need to Know

America’s favourite deadpan dad just made his big-screen debut, and if you’ve already missed it in theatres — or simply prefer watching from your couch — here’s your complete guide to when The Breadwinner lands on Netflix and everything else worth knowing about the film.

The Breadwinner (2026) — Film

What Is The Breadwinner About?

The Breadwinner stars Nate Bargatze as salesman Nate Wilcox and Mandy Moore as his wife Katie — the ultimate mom who manages their comically chaotic household with equal parts efficiency and love. But when Katie’s household invention leads to a once-in-a-lifetime deal on Shark Tank and takes her on a prolonged business trip, Nate has to figure out how to keep the house from literally falling apart.

He and his kids soon learn that while he may not do it like mom, he can figure out how to do it his way. Welcome to the dad era.

It’s the classic role reversal comedy premise — but with Bargatze’s signature warmth and gentle absurdity driving every scene. Critics are divided, but families are loving it.

The Cast — A Comedy Dream Team

Directed by Eric Appel and co-written by Dan Lagana and Bargatze himself, the film marks the major feature debut for the record-shattering stand-up comedian, who stars alongside a stacked comedic cast that includes Mandy Moore, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Cherry, and Will Forte.

Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank even shows up as himself — a fun meta touch that fits perfectly with the film’s central plot. All three of Bargatze’s podcast co-hosts from the Nateland podcast also make cameos, making this genuinely a labour of love from his inner circle.

When Will The Breadwinner Be on Netflix?

Here’s the question everyone’s asking. If The Breadwinner follows the standard 120-day window from its May 29th premiere, we expect the movie to stream on Netflix US on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at the latest — but it could land as soon as late August 2026.

For international viewers, the picture is more complicated. In the United Kingdom, Sky Cinema and its streaming counterpart NOW typically hold the first-window rights to Sony movies. In Canada, first-window rights generally belong to Crave. In Australia, Sony titles usually head to Binge or Foxtel first. Most international Netflix subscribers outside the US and India may need to wait considerably longer.

Fortunately, once the new global deal begins in 2027, this staggered international rollout will become a thing of the past for future Sony releases. What’s on Netflix

Is It Worth Watching?

Audience response has been warm — clean, PG-rated family comedy with genuine heart isn’t easy to pull off, and Bargatze’s real-life persona as the nicest man in comedy translates naturally to the big screen. Critics have been less enthused, pointing to a familiar premise. But if you’re looking for a genuinely wholesome film to watch with kids that doesn’t talk down to adults, this delivers exactly what it promises.
