Narnia Is Coming — Greta Gerwig’s The Magician’s Nephew Has Wrapped Filming

After years of anticipation, the biggest fantasy movie event of 2026 just hit a major milestone. Filming on Netflix’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has officially wrapped — and with three exciting new cast additions now confirmed, the hype train is very much leaving the station.

Directed by Greta Gerwig (Barbie, Little Women), this is the Narnia reboot the world has been waiting for — and it’s shaping up to be something truly special.

Narnia Filming Wrapped in January 2026 — Ahead of Schedule

Production kicked off in August 2025 in England and officially wrapped in January 2026 — roughly six months of filming, finishing slightly earlier than the expected mid-February date. VFX powerhouse WetaFX (Avatar, Planet of the Apes) is handling the visual effects, and Oscar-nominated editor Andrew Weisblum is in the cutting room. In short, the technical team behind this film is world-class.

The film is set for a theatrical release on November 26, 2026, followed by its arrival on Netflix on Christmas Day 2026 — the perfect holiday gift for fantasy fans everywhere.

New Cast Additions: Three Netflix Favourites Join the World of Narnia

Three exciting names have been added to the already stellar lineup, all of whom have strong Netflix credentials:

Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes), Gerard Monaco (3 Body Problem), and James Murray (The Crown) have all joined the cast in undisclosed roles. Additionally, Samantha Spiro will voice one of the animated beavers, adding a fun layer to an already rich ensemble.

Why This Film Matters

The Magician’s Nephew is the origin story of Narnia itself — following young Digory and Polly who, through magic rings, accidentally unleash the terrifying White Witch upon London before ultimately witnessing the magical creation of Narnia. It’s a story about beginnings, consequences, and wonder, and in Gerwig’s hands, fans are expecting something emotionally rich and visually breathtaking.

Netflix acquired the rights to the entire Chronicles of Narnia series back in 2018, and Gerwig is signed on to direct at least two films. This is just the beginning of what could be one of the most ambitious fantasy franchises in streaming history.
