Nagarjuna’s 100th Film: King Gears Up for Ayothi Telugu Remake

The Telugu cinema’s evergreen King Nagarjuna is set to make his 100th film extra special with a powerful remake. Recent reports suggest that Nagarjuna Akkineni’s landmark 100th film will be a remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil drama “Ayothi,” originally starring Sasikumar. This milestone project promises to be an emotional powerhouse that could redefine the veteran actor’s illustrious career.

Nagarjuna Original Ayothi: A Story Worth Retelling

Ayothi is a 2023 Indian Tamil melodramatic procedural drama film directed by newcomer R. Manthira Moorthy, starring M. Sasikumar, Yashpal Sharma, Preethi Asrani, and others. The film was released on 3 March 2023 to positive reviews from critics praising the performances, screenplay, emotional weight of the story & direction.

What Makes Ayothi Special?

The story follows a family from North India who gets involved in a series of mishaps on their journey to Rameswaram until a stranger decides to help them out. The story begins in Ayodhya where Balram, an ardent Ram bhakt, resides with his wife Janaki, college-going daughter Shivani and young son Sonu.

The film explores themes of:

• Religious orthodoxy and its consequences
• Family dynamics and patriarchal attitudes
• Human compassion and unexpected help
• Social commentary wrapped in emotional storytelling

Why Nagarjuna Chose This Project

Highly impressed by the emotional content of the subject, Nagarjuna is reported to be part of this remake. Reportedly, Nagarjuna seems to have liked the script so much that he gave a green signal to be a part of the remake. This choice reflects the actor’s commitment to meaningful cinema as he approaches his 100th film milestone.

The selection makes perfect sense for several reasons:

• Emotional depth: The story offers rich character development opportunities
• Social relevance: Addresses contemporary issues through universal themes
• Proven success: Sasikumar was praised for his performance in the drama film Ayothi
• Pan-Indian appeal: The story’s universal themes translate well across languages

The Director’s Vision

The upcoming film is said to be helmed by Nitham Oru Vaanam fame Ra Karthik, bringing fresh perspective to this emotional drama. Ra Karthik’s previous work suggests he understands the nuances required for such sensitive storytelling.

Current Status and Timeline

Official announcement expected on his birthday, August 29. However, as of now, these are just reports and no official confirmation has been made. The timing suggests careful planning for this milestone film.

Meanwhile, Nagarjuna is eagerly gearing up for the release of Rajinikanth starrer Coolie, which is slated to hit big screens on August 14, 2025.

What This Means for Telugu Cinema

This remake represents more than just another film—it’s a statement about quality content crossing language barriers. For fans following Telugu cinema trends, this project signals a shift toward more meaningful storytelling.

The choice also highlights how successful regional films are increasingly being recognized and adapted across different film industries, creating a more unified Indian cinema landscape.

The King’s Legacy Continues

Nagarjuna has acted in over 90 films as a lead actor as well as playing supporting and cameo roles, including Hindi and Tamil cinema. He has received nine state Nandi Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, and one Special Mention at the National Film Awards.
