Mustafizur Rahman: Auction Breakdown

The Bidding War

Mustafizur entered with a ₹2 crore base price, with Delhi Capitals—who used him as an injury replacement last season—opening bidding. CSK, who benefited from his 14 wickets in 2024, joined the fray. But KKR swooped decisively, securing the Bangladeshi ace for nearly five times his base value.

Why KKR Needed Mustafizur

The 2024 champions released key overseas pacers including Anrich Nortje and Spencer Johnson, leaving gaps in their fast bowling department. With ₹64.30 crore purse and six overseas slots available, KKR required experience and versatility—exactly what Mustafizur offers.

Career Credentials:

• 60 IPL matches, 65 wickets at 28.44 average, 8.13 economy
• Third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 158 scalps at 20.96 average
• Only non-Indian Emerging Player Award winner (2016)
• Proven performer across IPL, CPL, and BPL

The X-Factor

Mustafizur’s repertoire of cutters, off-pace variations, and death-over precision makes him invaluable. His left-arm angle provides crucial variety in KKR’s attack alongside retained pacers Harshit Rana, Umran Malik, and Vaibhav Arora.

The Verdict

KKR’s acquisition addresses their overseas pace shortage while adding proven T20 expertise. Mustafizur’s death-over mastery could prove decisive in tight chases, especially at Eden Gardens where his variations thrive. At ₹9.20 crore, it’s a calculated gamble on experience over youth—one that could define KKR’s title defense.
