Musafir Cafe: Netflix India Trades Crime Thrillers for a Slow-Burn Romance with Vikrant Massey

After years of gritty crime dramas like Kohrra and Aranyak, Netflix India is switching gears with Musafir Cafe (“Traveler Cafe”), a romance series led by Vikrant Massey. Series head Tanya Bami calls it the platform’s step into an underexplored genre — the kind of “comfort watching” that leaves you with a warm, lingering feeling.

The setting: Instead of dark forests or rural crime belts, the show unfolds against picturesque backdrops — lakeside views in Bhopal (Wikipedia) and mountain vistas in the popular honeymoon town of Mussoorie (Wikipedia).

The story: Based on Divya Prakash Dubey’s novel of the same name and written by Sharanya Rajgopal (Jab We Matched), the series follows Chander Mohan Sharma (Massey), a man whose carefully planned life is disrupted when he meets Sudha (Vedika Pinto), a fiercely independent divorce lawyer who pushes him toward embracing uncertainty. As his journey unfolds, he also crosses paths with Preeti (Mahima Makwana), whose quiet strength offers a different kind of love altogether. It’s less a love triangle and more a meditation on how different relationships shape who we become.

The cast: Massey (Haseen Dillruba) leads as Chander — this marks his sixth Netflix original and first series for the platform. He’s joined by Vedika Pinto (Gumraah) and Mahima Makwana (Antim: The Final Truth), along with Adil Hussain, Rajeev Siddhartha, Anubha Fatehpuria, Loveleen Mishra, and Sadiya Siddiqui.
