Murata Manufacturing Co. Heads Towards a Big Change: Giving India a Bigger Part in World Supply

Evaluating What India’s Got to Offer

Murata’s head honcho Norio Nakajima, underlines the surge in India’s electronics demand and customers wanting varied places to make stuff when talking about this likely change. Right now around 60% of Murata’s Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) get made in Japan. But they’re thinking to cut that down to about 50% soon moving some of their making things to other places, with India on the list.

Strategic Moves in Tamil Nadu

Before going all in with a big investment, Murata snagged a five-year lease for a spot in the OneHub Chennai Industrial Park in Tamil Nadu. And get this, they’re shelling out ¥1 billion ($6.6 million) for it. They plan to kick off with packaging and sending out ceramic capacitors when the fiscal year starts in April 2026. It’s like Murata’s dipping its toes in to feel out the steady demand and get the hang of running things in India before they decide to set up their own full-blown production house.

Taking on Infrastructure and Rules

While the future looks good, Nakajima points out that India needs to work on its facilities where power is steady, to fit Murata’s big production goals. But the folks at Murata are hopeful. They see that the Indian government is pushing local factories with all sorts of perks and new rules. Murata plans to snatch up these chances when they pop up.

Conclusion

Thinking about setting up shop in India is a smart move for Murata Manufacturing as the world’s supply lines are changing. By getting in on the action in India, Murata isn’t just trying to keep up with the huge local need. They’re also strengthening their position all over the world in an economy that’s always in flux.
