This is the Disney casting announcement the internet has been demanding for years — and it finally happened. On March 10, 2026, Kathryn Hahn confirmed in the most delightfully low-key way possible that she is officially playing Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled. And honestly? It was the most perfectly her way to do it.
How the Announcement Happened — Pure Kathryn Hahn Energy
Hahn uploaded a joint post with Disney Studios in which she showed off her Gothel-themed outfit — a t-shirt covered with five different pictures of the animated version of Gothel from the 2010 film. “Hey! OOTD, I just found out what that stands for. So here’s my outfit of the day,” she said with her trademark deadpan charm. Wionews
Disney Studios’ official caption on the post leaned all the way into it, writing: “You want her to be the bad guy? FINE. Kathryn Hahn is Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled” — a direct nod to one of Mother Gothel’s most iconic lines from the original film.
Hahn also updated her Instagram bio to read “mother knows best” — a reference to the villain’s show-stopping song from the animated feature. Bollywood Life

Why Kathryn Hahn Was Always the Right Choice
Interestingly, Tangled‘s development was revived in October 2025 when Scarlett Johansson first circled the role of Mother Gothel. She ultimately had to step away due to scheduling conflicts with Batman II and The Exorcist reboot — opening the door for Hahn.
The rest is history. Hahn is coming off a career-best streak — she earned critical acclaim for her role as Marvel witch Agatha Harkness in Agatha All Along on Disney+, followed by Apple TV+’s awards magnet The Studio, where she plays a sharp-tongued film marketing executive. Playing a manipulative, power-hungry villain who hides cruelty behind a loving facade? That’s practically her second language at this point.
Teagan Croft will step into the role of Rapunzel — the Disney Princess who spent her life locked in a tower — while Milo Manheim takes on the charming rogue Flynn Rider, characters originally voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi respectively in the beloved 2010 film. Outlook India
Zachary Levi himself gave Manheim his seal of approval, commenting: “Congrats, Milo! Now go do Eugene Fitzherbert proud.”
