How Does Shao Kahn Finally Get Defeated?

The road to the finale is long and costly. Shao Kahn is immortal, kept alive by a dark magic pendant — which is how he survives a fight with Cole and violently kills him mid-film.

Meanwhile, Johnny Cage and Kano head to the Netherrealm — with Scorpion as their guide — to retrieve the Amulet of Shinnok from Bi-Han (now reborn as the shadowy Noob Saibot). Scorpion and Bi-Han face off while Cage and Kano battle Bi-Han’s shadow manifestation, Saibot.

Back in Edenia, Shao Kahn makes quick work of Sonya, then turns his wrath on Liu Kang — who, despite a valiant fight, is ultimately impaled through the stomach. But he doesn’t die. Instead, Kang transforms into embers and heads to the Netherrealm, vowing to bring Kung Lao back from the dead.

With Kahn momentarily distracted, Sonya crawls over to Kitana — bound to a statue after betraying Kahn — and frees her. Now facing a suddenly mortal Shao Kahn, Kitana gains the upper hand, using her razor fans like a rotor blade to cut open Kahn’s mask. When Kahn grabs her by the throat and snarls “Weak, just like your father,” it’s the final push she needs — she uses both fans to end him once and for all, right in the arena where her father died decades before.
