Connection to Malayalam Hit “Oppam”

While Haiwaan draws inspiration from Priyadarshan’s 2016 Malayalam hit “Oppam” (which starred Mohanlal), the director clarified that it’s not an exact remake but features a fresh screenplay. This approach allows the film to stand on its own while incorporating elements that made the original successful.

Production Updates and Timeline

The big-budget production, backed by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, recently continued shooting in Kochi before moving to other locations including Vagamon. The filming schedule spans multiple scenic locations across Kerala and Maharashtra.

Industry insiders suggest this could be one of the most talked-about Hindi thrillers in recent times, combining Priyadarshan’s directorial expertise with powerhouse performances from Kumar and Khan.

What This Means for Indian Cinema

This collaboration represents the beautiful cross-pollination between Bollywood and regional cinema. Mohanlal’s cameo bridges the gap between Malayalam and Hindi film industries, potentially introducing new audiences to diverse storytelling traditions.

The film also marks an important milestone in Priyadarshan’s career, as he has hinted at considering retirement after completing his 100th film. Haiwaan could be among his final directorial ventures, making it even more significant for cinema enthusiasts.
