I-League clubs Mohammedan Sporting and Sreenidi Deccan will be participating in the Connect Tournament held in South Africa. The matches will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, and will also feature Premier Soccer League (PSL) of South Africa – Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The tournament is aimed at providing more exposure to teams both in South Africa as well as India. And participation for the two I-League stalwarts will surely give them a better idea of the kind of competition there is across the world.

The opening fixture will see Mohammedan Sporting face Orlando Pirates, and while the Black Panthers won’t be going in as clear favourites, it will give them a good picture of top flight football if they make it to the ISL next season by winning the I-League.

Mohammedan Sporting will be landing in South Africa on January 24, and will have a two-day training period where they will get accustomed to the conditions there. Before leaving, they are set to play a match against the East Bengal reserve team.

Both I-League teams will be representing not only themselves but also the nation, as part of the exchange.
