MIUI 13 launches in India with system optimizations and new wallpapers

MIUI 13 is finally here! With total monthly users crossing 500 million globally, it is safe to say that a large chunk of the total user base of Xiaomi is from India. The users in the country have been eagerly waiting for the launch of the device since it was first released in China in December 2021.

Indian users may be let down as the new update focuses more on performance and it neglects UI-related changes for the second time in a row.

The latest version of MIUI revolves around four major elements, all of which are aimed at improving user experience and reducing total power consumption. At the top of the list is the Optimized File Storage System which has been claimed to keep read/write speeds tip-top even after 36 months of usage.

Xiaomi claims that other Android skins do not focus on defragmentation the way MIUI does, resulting in them losing up to 50% of the R/W speeds in 3 years.

Next is RAM optimization which has been claimed to boost background process efficiency by 40%, allowing more apps to run at once while achieving a better multitasking experience.

It is joined by Processor Priority Optimization that employs automated CPU/GPU allocation to help the OS prioritize foreground apps. Xiaomi also promises up to 10% of improved battery life due to the Smart Balance feature.

Aside from this, the remainder of the changes can be seen in the visual elements. Xiaomi has partnered with Beauty of Science to bring in some new wallpapers that all look very aesthetically pleasing. They are inspired by the crystallization of different substances.

Note that just like Super Wallpapers from MIUI 12, these will not be available across all devices. Lower-end devices can enjoy a brand new collection of static wallpapers that look like a breath of fresh air.

With upgraded widgets support, which was one of the main highlights of MIUI 13 China, appears to have been skipped for the time being but you get a Sidebar feature. This allows access to the apps with which you interact the most with just a swipe.

A great use-case for this would be pulling up the Notes app as a small window over the current app for instant access. MIUI 13 in India will begin rolling out with Xiaomi’s flagships and devices that have been launched recently. The first wave will begin to get it from Q1 of 2022.
