What’s the Mounts of Mayhem Drop?

Mounts of Mayhem is Minecraft’s fourth game drop of 2025, introducing revolutionary mounted combat and aquatic exploration. The update adds:

New Mounts: Nautilus (underwater), Zombie Nautilus, Zombie Horse (now spawns naturally in Survival), and Camel Husk (undead desert variant)

Spear Weapon: Available in all material tiers (wood through netherite) with jab and charge attacks. The charge attack scales with speed and can knock enemies off their mounts—perfect for jousting!

Nautilus Armor: Craftable in copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite variants exclusively for nautilus mounts

Hostile Riders: Desert patrols feature Parched archers and spear-wielding Husks riding Camel Husks

Critical Bug Fixes in 1.21.130.27

Spear Improvements: The Unbreaking enchantment finally works on spears, addressing a frustrating durability issue. Merging enchanted spears on anvils now functions correctly, and Piglins properly inspect spears in their left hand.

Zombie Horse Polish: The asymmetrical head texture bug is fixed, giving zombie horses a properly mirrored appearance. They no longer panic when taking fire tick damage while in sunlight, preventing the loop where they’d run back into daylight repeatedly.

Camel Husk Mechanics: Looting enchantment now properly affects drops. Camel Husks can’t be leashed while carrying hostile riders, and they won’t panic during combat rides.

Quality of Life: Hoppers can’t stack multiple bottles in Brewing Stand slots anymore (fixing an exploit), and spawn eggs are now thematically organized in Creative inventory.

The KurtJMac Easter Egg

The new splash text “One does not simply walk to the Far Lands” celebrates YouTuber KurtJMac’s legendary Far Lands or Bust journey. The developer note states: “This statement was proven false on October 4, 2025″—confirming Kurt finally reached the Far Lands after years of walking!

This touching tribute shows Mojang’s appreciation for dedicated community members who’ve shaped Minecraft’s culture.

When Does Mounts of Mayhem Launch?

Based on testing progression, expect the official Mounts of Mayhem release around mid-December 2025. The official Minecraft website confirms a Holiday 2025 window, with December 16 being the most likely date.

To test features early, enable Bedrock Beta through Xbox Insider Hub (Xbox/Windows) or opt into Preview builds. Java players can test via snapshots available now.

Preparing for Mounts of Mayhem

Stock up on saddles—you’ll need them for nautiluses and zombie horses. Start collecting copper, iron, gold, and diamonds for crafting nautilus armor and spears across all tiers.

Explore ocean monuments and buried treasure locations since nautilus armor has a chance to appear in these chests. Desert biomes will become more dangerous with Camel Husk patrols, so prepare accordingly.

FAQs

Q: Will my existing worlds be compatible with Mounts of Mayhem?

Yes! The update is fully compatible with existing worlds. New mobs like zombie horses, nautiluses, and camel husks will spawn naturally in appropriate biomes without requiring new world generation. However, always back up your world before updating to any beta or preview build, as these test versions can occasionally cause instability.

Q: Can I craft netherite nautilus armor, or is it upgrade-only?

Netherite nautilus armor requires upgrading diamond nautilus armor at a smithing table using a netherite upgrade template and netherite ingot—you can’t craft it directly. This matches the netherite horse armor system introduced in this update, maintaining consistency with how netherite gear works across Minecraft’s equipment progression.
