Last year we saw the historic entrance of the next-generation gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and it changed the way we play games. while we can argue all day long between who’s the best, PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. however, there is the undeniable fact that Sony was more ambitious in its approach to PS5.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself admitted that he applauded Sony’s work on the DualSense controller, however, now it seems that the chief of Xbox is even more impressed with Sony’s innovations. During the most recent Kinda Funny Gamescast, Spencer praised Sony’s gamepad and hinted that an update for the Xbox Series X/S controller could add some features from DualSense.
When I think about our hardware roadmap, and I love the evolution of Liz Hamren’s team and the work that they’ve done. We’re thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places. There’s probably some work that we’ll do on [the] controller. I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller and we kind of look at some of that and [think] there are things that we should go do. But [we’re] probably not in the more bespoke accessories place right now.
An Xbox controller with features similar to that of the DualSense controller might be the amazing thing to come out in the gaming industry. However, instead of updating the existing standard gamepad with extra features, it would be much better if we can get an entirely new Xbox Elite controller.
Not all of our controllers have the same capability. The Elite has the buttons on the back and stuff. We can’t turn the [Xbox] controller inside out because there’s so much expectation about the way it should work now, [but] we can innovate on top of that.
