There have been many speculations that Microsoft might be secretly working on a handheld console of its Xbox. But according to recent rumours, Microsoft is busy working on a “portable machine”.
This fuels our speculation that the Redmond-based company is preparing to unleash an Xbox handheld onto the market. The handheld Xbox rumours have been floating around for years, and Microsoft has even spent R&D time on a handheld console.
We have seen many fan-made promo materials of the Microsoft supposedly Xbox handheld device. Last year, a material promo for an Xbox Series V handheld console started appearing online, with the device looking quite similar to a large single-screened Nintendo DS Lite. After few months incredible fan-made concept videos of an Xbox Series Z portable, created by designer imkashama, showed what a handheld Xbox could look like.
Of course, if Microsoft is planning to launch a handheld console in the market, it simply cannot ignore the dominance that Nintendo Switch has in the handheld section. Nowadays, no one even talks about the PlayStation Portable because it has been completely abandoned. But, Nintendo currently rules over the handheld console market.
Microsoft has Xbox Cloud Gaming that turns any compatible mobile device into a sort of portable Xbox. Still, an actual device specifically made for its Cloud gaming service could be the best thing that Microsoft can target right now. If done well, an Xbox One handheld console or Xbox Series portable device could become a real threat to the Nintendo Switch Lite’s popularity.
Until then, stay tuned.
