Microsoft Build 2023: Announcing the Next Generation of AI-Powered Development

Microsoft Build is Microsoft‘s annual developer conference, and this year they focused on the next generation of AI-powered development. We announced a number of new innovations that will make it easier for developers to build intelligent applications, including:

AI-powered Applications & Developer Innovations – Microsoft Build 2023

  • Azure AI Studio is a new cloud-based development environment that makes it easy to build and deploy AI models. With Azure AI Studio, developers can quickly and easily access a wide range of AI services, including Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Machine Learning, and Azure Cognitive Services.
  • Azure AI prompt flow is a new tool that helps developers create and evaluate AI models. Azure AI prompt flow provides a simple, intuitive interface that makes it easy to experiment with different prompts and parameters.
  • Azure OpenAI Plugins are a new way to extend the capabilities of Azure OpenAI Service. With Azure OpenAI Plugins, developers can add new functionality to their AI models, such as the ability to access data from other sources or to perform specific tasks.
  • Foundation models in Azure Machine Learning are a new way to make it easier to work with open-source models. Foundation models are pre-trained models that have been fine-tuned for specific tasks. With foundation models, developers can quickly and easily get started with AI development without having to train their own models from scratch.
  • New Vector search capability in Azure Cognitive Search is a new way to search for information in large datasets. Vector search uses a technique called embedding to represent each piece of information as a vector. This makes it possible to find information that is semantically similar to a search query.
  • Provisioned Throughput Model for Azure OpenAI Service is a new way to purchase capacity for Azure OpenAI Service. With the Provisioned Throughput Model, developers can guarantee that they will have the resources they need to run their AI models.
  • New Azure AI Content Safety service is a new service that helps developers detect and remove unsafe content from their AI models. Azure AI Content Safety can detect unsafe content in images, text, and code.

At Microsoft Build 2023, they also announced a number of updates to our comprehensive developer tools and app platform portfolio, including:

  • Microsoft Dev Box is a new cloud-based development environment that provides developers with access to ready-to-code, project-specific dev boxes. Microsoft Dev Box helps support hybrid dev teams of any size, helping developers focus on writing code by streamlining access to all the resources and tools they need for the project at hand.
  • GitHub Advanced Security for Azure DevOps is a new solution that provides the three core features of GitHub Advanced Security into the Azure DevOps platform. GitHub Advanced Security for Azure DevOps includes code scanning powered by CodeQL to detect vulnerabilities, secret scanning to prevent the inclusion of sensitive information in code repositories, and dependency scanning to identify vulnerabilities in open-source dependencies and provide update alerts.
  • Azure Deployment Environments (ADE) is a new service that enables development teams to quickly spin up app infrastructure with project-based templates. ADE provides self-service templates that deploy directly from dev tools, code repos, or custom developer portals, and maximize security with centralized permissions and policy governance, access controls, and full management of cloud resource configurations.
  • Long-term Support for Kubernetes in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) is a new offering that enables customers to stay on the same release for two years—twice as long as what’s possible today.
  • Confidential containers in AKS is a new offering that allows teams to run standard unmodified containers, aligned with Kata Confidential Containers opensource project.

These are just a few of the many announcements we made at Microsoft Build 2023. We are excited to see what developers will build with these new innovations.
