Microsoft has introduced Retro Classics with Game Pass, a partnership with Antstream Arcade that brings over 50 classic Activision games from the 1980s and 1990s to Game Pass subscribers. The collection includes titles such as Commando, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, and Pitfall!, dating to up to 45 years ago. Progress can be saved and picked up later—a feature new to many of these vintage games.

Microsoft Launches Retro Classics on Game Pass with 50+ Classic Activision Games and Save Progress Feature

Microsoft describes Retro Classics with Game Pass as part of its dedication to game preservation and backward compatibility. The collection is available to all Game Pass subscribers in regions where the service operates. The library covers platforms such as the Atari 2600, DOS, and Amiga. There is even a PlayStation (PSX) section, right now even including MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, which I believe was first published in 1995, then on PlayStation and Sega Saturn. The Super Nintendo (SNES) section features MechWarrior from 1993.

Microsoft plans to expand the Retro Classics library by adding more games from Activision and Blizzard’s archives, with the collection expected to exceed 100 titles over time, adding new games monthly. Subscribers can already access the Retro Classics collection, which includes games like Atlantis, Barnstorming, Boxing, Caesar II, Demon Attack, Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist, Police Quest 1, Space Quest 2, Zork I, Quest for Glory 1, and many more.

Retro Classics will be available to play on Xbox consoles, the PC Xbox app, and on supported LG and Samsung Smart TVs, as well as streamed on Amazon Fire TV devices and Meta Quest headsets. Other multiplayer challenges, new achievements, and progress saving have also been added to make it appealing to both fans and first-time players of the games. Retro Classics are available for Game Pass members to discover and download from the console or the PC app.
