Mi 12 to integrate LPDDR5X RAM, it may also come with Snapdragon 898 SoC

Xiaomi introduced its most premium smartphone series in the form of Mi 11 earlier this year. The devices introduced in this series included the Mi 11 Ultra and the Mi 11 Lite besides the standard variant. The company seems to be now gearing up for the successor of the Mi 11 series. The Mi 12’s development has been tipped in the latest. The processor and the RAM details have been tipped. Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Mi 12 specs, features and other details leaked ahead of the launch.

Xiaomi Mi 12 leaked details

The Xiaomi Mi 12’s development has been tipped by Mydrivers. According to a new report, the upcoming Xiaomi flagship smartphone will draw power from a Snapdragon 898 SoC. Xiaomi, in recent years, has worked with Qualcomm to be among the first to launch its flagship phone with a top-tier processor. It would not be a surprise to see the Mi 11 successor feature Qualcomm’s next-best mobile SoC.

Details of the SD898 SoC were tipped recently. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will feature a four-cluster core layout, configured in a 1+3+2+2 structure. In this configuration, the SoC would feature four efficiency cores, with two configured with a high-frequency clock and two with lower frequencies. The three cores in the middle of the structure would be the main performance cores, which would be further supported by the one, peak performance core. It is the latter that is expected to feature the ARM X2 core, and the report suggests that it would be clocked at 3.09GHz.

The report further suggests that the device will be using the new generation LPDDR5X RAM. This upgraded version of the LPDDR5 RAM is said to deliver enhanced speeds (6,400 MBPS to 8,533MBPS) and better efficiency. Currently, the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 870 chips do not support LPDDR5X RAM. It is, therefore, expected that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, dubbed Snapdragon 898, will come with LPDDR5X support.

However, the exact RAM capacity driving the Mi 12 isn’t revealed just yet. Considering, the upcoming handset will be amongst one of the most premium offerings we can expect 12GB RAM or 16GB RAM. But, this is just speculation.

Mi 12 specs(Rumoured)

There is very little that we know about Mi 12 as of now but previous reports claim that the phone is tipped to feature a 200-megapixel primary camera from Samsung and Olympus. This rumored 200-megapixel sensor is said to use 16-in-1 pixel binning to output 12-megapixel images with large pixels. There might be an Olympus logo on the camera module of the phone as well. In addition, Mi 12 is likely to feature a curved display with a single punch hole cutout for the selfie camera.
