“Merry Berry Love”: Ji Chang Wook’s Rocky Meet-Cute Blooms Into Island Romance

A fallen-from-grace designer, a devoted strawberry farmer, and a rough first impression that melts into something sweeter — Disney+’s new rom-com is bringing back Ji Chang Wook’s romantic charm.

Disney+’s upcoming series Merry Berry Love has dropped a new teaser and poster, giving fans their first real taste of a slow-burn romance set against a picturesque Japanese island backdrop.

What the Story Is About

Merry Berry Love follows Lee Yu Bin, a once-successful Korean spatial designer who loses everything overnight and travels to a Japanese island hoping to rebuild his life. There, he crosses paths with Shirahama Karin, a young strawberry farmer who has dedicated her entire life to her craft. What begins as an unpleasant first encounter gradually softens into a tender, unexpected romance. Notably, this marks Ji Chang Wook’s return to romantic comedy for the first time in three years, since Welcome to Samdalri.

Merry Berry Love: Overview

What the New Teaser Reveals

The newly released poster captures a warm, intimate moment between the two leads — Lee Yu Bin smiling gently as Shirahama Karin leans softly against him, hinting at the shy, slow-building affection at the heart of the story. The teaser video goes further, showcasing Lee Yu Bin’s amusing transformation from a polished, perfectionist designer into a disheveled strawberry field laborer. Watching him navigate rough farm work while becoming an increasingly devoted presence by Shirahama Karin’s side adds a distinctly charming, fish-out-of-water energy to the romance.

Adding another layer to the story is Nam Yoon Su’s character, Park Gu Nam, a working holiday participant who stayed on Charo Island purely out of love — his straightforward, determined pursuit of his feelings promises to bring extra energy to the ensemble.

Why This Drama Has Appeal

Stories about characters rebuilding their lives in unfamiliar, rural settings have long resonated with K-drama audiences, often blending humor with genuine emotional growth. Pairing that familiar comfort with Ji Chang Wook‘s proven romantic comedy chemistry — last seen charming audiences in Welcome to Samdalri — makes Merry Berry Love one of the more anticipated cross-cultural romances on the fall drama slate.
